Hmmm, what can i say about SYH? This school is not racially diverse and does not let your children study in diverse environment. The school is quite packed with students and the campus is getting more and more crowded every year. The electives that we have at this school are miniscule. Though, the electives we do have are satisfactory. The music and art program as well as sports are ok. Though, i would like to see more electives such as accounting or economics that help kids towards their future. There arent any to my knowlegde offered. This school is quite plain and doesn't offer very much. But it's better than nothing.

This is one of the few schools in SD County that require students to use uniforms. I know some students don't like the idea, but as a parent I feel it gives the more control on students that don't belong in the campus. Staff, including counselors, nurses and teachers are always intentive to calls and concerns

Academically there is not enough variety in the ap courses offered. How ever the school offers a great deal of oppertunity for all students to exceed with morning, advisory and after scool tutoring. Just about every sports team offered excludin club sports such as hockey.

San Ysidro High has worked hard to create an enviornment where students learn and are provided activities before, after and during school to motivate them to do well acedemically and become well rounded adults. There should be more parent involvement. Students and parents need to take attendance seriously. This school is full of new teachers. They are learning daily what works for them in classroom management. Some of the students in attendance are not serious about education and teachers spend a lot of time working in behavior and not subject matter. There are good teachers working to give our students a good education. My children enjoy this school and are very active in their classes and activities. Teachers and coaches need our support.

Great afterschool program: dance, tutoring, electronic music class, etc. Campus only 3 years old. Energetic staff. Needs more parent involvement. Safe school. Many electives offered: French, Mariachi, AP art, Academic Decathlon, Drama, NJROTC, Ballet Folklorico, ASB, Newspaper.

About the tests


In 2012-2013 California used the California Standards Tests (CSTs) to test students in English language arts in grades 2 through 11; math in grades 2 through 7; science in grades 5, 8 and 10; and history-social science in grades 8 and 11. Middle and high school students also took subject-specific CSTs in math and science, depending on the course in which they were enrolled. The CSTs are standards-based tests, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of California. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the tests.

The different student groups are identified by the California Department of Education; if there are fewer than 10 students in a particular group in a school, the state doesn't report data for that group.
