This school has changed dramatically since D. Clark took over. Ms. Clark has little experience in working with ED kids and spends most of her time chatting with her lead teacher, M. Martinez who herself does less then Ms. Clark. Riley used to have full programs for ED kids to benefit from but she eliminated all staff that had worked at the site for many years. Anyone that questioned her has sent packing leaving teachers who are more concerned with keeping their jobs over better the school The district should seriously consider shutting this place down or getting rid of the current staff.
Four schools occupy the Riley campus making it difficult to identify whom you need to contact on a day-to-day basis, when communication challenges exist and when the need arises to make a request or have decision makers available. My son has been at one school on the campus for 1 1/2 years and has made no progress despite extraordinary efforts on my part. The staff and their leadership are not knowledgeable about special education rights and laws and the school staff does not consider parents part of the IEP team. The school IEP team members do not work collaboratively which is counter to the purpose the educational environment and supports relative to this type of placement.
My son is in the K-2 class at Riley. They have been the most amazing teachers and aides I have ever encountered. My son has been in special ed since he was 10 days old. Ms. SueZee is an absolutely outstanding teacher. You will not find better anywhere. I cannot speak to the higher grades at Riley/New Dawn but the K-2 program is top notch.
