I went to the Arch Academy from 6th to 8th Grade. I have Aspergers syndrome, and this school did well for me athletically, but did absolutely terrible for me academically. Here, students take "one course at a time" at their own pace, they have to teach the material themselves, and the "honors" classes are not any different from the regular classes. I wanted to be challenged, but they failed to do that. The executive director has a "pod", where you write 5 page essays, but she doesn't teach and yells at you for writing bad essays. They have substitutions where you do a project instead of the actual work. PATHETIC! This school lacks teachers and that is the reason i left. Oh, and they make you walk the dogs till they poop, and one kid got in trouble for shaking the dog because he was frustrated.
Our daughter enrolled in the Arch Academy after spending 6 months in a hospitalization program for an eating disorder brought on by anxiety in her middle school years. Slowly and gradually she returned to us and sanity with the guidance and support of the dedicated teachers and mentors at the Arch. She works side-by-side with others children dealing with drug addiction, autism, asperger's and emotional disorders. And she is thriving! How does Arch do it? By holding the children accountable for their behavior above all and turning the kids' focus onto doing their schoolwork, learning how to acheive in athletics, and by supporting, not enabling, their peers. Way to Go, Arch! When kids are so low in life that most of us want to run away, these people step in and know what to do. It's amazing! Thank you for saving our daughter and for saving more kids, each and every day!
I attended this school as a teenager and they saved my life, after numerous other programs failed. They were not focused on collecting a paycheck, but instead nearly put themselves in bankruptcy funneling their paychecks into the school at times to keep it running. I now work at the school, and will continue to try to pay them back for saving my life. Anyone who would write a negative review on this school wasn't open-minded, honest, and willing to face reality. This school will work nearly 100% of the time if you allow it to. You can hold me to that statement personally, Keith Lyons, come see me and I will explain anything you need to know. I have been on both sides of the school.
This is an awful "school" that is likely to do more damage than good for your child...and at tremendous financial cost as well. The directors are unprofessional, self centered and greedy. They provide none of what they claim to...emotionally, behaviorally and particularly academically. Look elsewhere...anywhere. Check with reputable private schools or ask your public school district for options. DO NOT CONSIDER THIS PLACE.
