So far we have been happy with this school. I agree with one of the prior comments about the principal. He does not show much leadership and seems to let the teachers and alpha parents call most of the shots. Still, the students do well. It will be interesting to see how the loss of magnet status affects the school and student performance.
I am a teacher at Grant and I think this is the best K-8 school in the district! I love my job, the kids, parents and the staff. I just hope the budget cuts don't destroy this school that performs so well.
Great kids, parents, PTA, teachers, and staff all work together to make the school both fun and educational. To bad nothing nice can be said about the principal.
Love this school! The staff, the counselors, the teachers and the parents all come together to create a wonderful place of learning. The administration and staff are top notch.
This is a wonderful school, and I am proud for my child to attend there. They offer a school garden, labs, enhancement activities, and a welcoming community of parents, teachers, and administration working together for our children. My child has been challenged to excel, and with positive results.
My daughter is in 2nd Grade and having a phenomenal time at Grant. The PTA is the greatest and accomodating to those of us that can't put as much time as we desire.
Our family has been involved with Grant Math Science Magnet for 4 years. It is an excellent school. Incredible parent participation and staff commitment. We are looking forward to our 5th year!
This is an excellent school! It is beautiful and the quality is exceptional. Test scores are high as is parent involvement!
My daughter is in 1st grade at Grant. Her teachers in both kindergarden and 1st have been excellent. The math and science teachers and labs are great. I feel that the students are held to high academic standards and are given the tools and support they need to acheive them. There are many parents who are very involved in the school and who accomplish a lot for the school. In general, it has a safe, friendly, community feeling. We are very happy with it.
My son is in the third grade at Grant and has received a phenomenal education to date. He is currently in the GATE seminar program and is thrilled to go to school every day! He participates in most all extracurricular activities offered at school and they are all very well run and are run by superior adults. The PTA and all around parental involvement are very inviting. There seem to be several parents in each classroom each week. I spend as much time as I can at school and am constantly impressed with the desire from the faculty and staff to encourage parents to be involved. The PTA fundraising is very inventive and the group is always a joy to be around.
Dedicated teachers and parents are working hard at Grant in spite of the lousy leadership of the principal.
Great parent/PTA involvement and support--financially and timewise. Teachers vary - most are excellent.
Teachers are very involved and dedicated with the children and encourage parents to have participation in the classroom daily activities.
My daughter attended this school briefly. I was concerned about the degree to which some of the teachers felt demoralized and not respected or supported by the administration. The science and math labs are great and provide wonderful interactive learning opportunities for the kids. I wished there was better communication, however, with the homeroom teacher and the lab teachers. The 'Gecko garden' is lovely and provides opportunities for kids and parents to be involved. The school enjoys wonderful community support.
I have been involved at Grant for the last three years and I am amazed at the level of commitment and support that parents and teachers and staff provide to the students. Our students receive a top rate education from a public school when the perception of 'good education' is best attached to private schools. Our teachers have maintained solid and true just as the buildings have withstood the test of time. Go Geckos!
