I hesitated for a long time before posting this comment, because as a concerned, involved parent I strongly believe in schools being the center of our communities, and in keeping our kids in our neighborhood schools. With this in mind, I hate to dissuade anyone from enrolling in Lafayette. However, while the teaching staff at Lafayette is exceptional and wonderful, the administration and therefore, the priorities at Lafayette and the overall climate are not, in our family s experience, what is described in some of these comments. It would be wonderful, and in fact, should be the nature of things in the public school system, that parents and families feel they have a caring ally in the principal. This is just not the case at Lafayette. The PTA is very active, in that it successfully performs a lot of fundraising, providing the few extracurricular activities the students are able to enjoy, but it supports the administration, and parent and family advocacy is sorely lacking in any form at this site. The restrictions students have on their playtime and the playground rules border on the ridiculous.
