Hi, we're an expat family that will move back to the States this summer, I'm looking into Phx or San Diego area. However, as I do more search on this site, I'm getting a bit more confused. There seems to be a type of school in San Diego area that are usually from k-12, and they usually get great community ratings and they seem wonderful! As I look into the ratings, some of them are 'home school ', some I don't know, but they all seem to be small in size and care for the children. Could someone know about these type of school tell me how does it different from other public schools? And also, in CA, if I don't want to attend my assigned school, is it hard for me to transfer the kids to other schools I like? Thank you so much for your help!
Good news for you! If you choose San Diego, one of the many great benefits is that many of the public schools are ranked very high. Any K-12 school that I have seen is usually private and very expensive, I moved to my area specifically for the schools and have never regretted it. You should move to an area where you are happy with the schools because it is hard to move outside of the district. San Diego North County has award-winning schools and is a great place to live. I am not sure if I am allowed to post my contact website, but if you would like help in locating an area to live, I would be happy to.
All the best. Andrea Loomis Williams Coldwell Banker83058
Hi Litolight, and welcome to GreatSchools San Diego community.
My guess is they are hybrid schools. Some religious schools have set up programs where the students attend school part time (perhaps 2-3 days a week), and are home schooled the rest. It gives the best of both worlds for many families.
Also if you are thinking about San Diego school choice, their website contains a wealth of information, including information on school choice. Most of those programs have deadlines, but you can read about them here: http://www.sandi.net/site/Default.aspx?PageID=902
