I am glad that I transfer my child from unified school district to Kipp Bay Academy. My daughter is 5th grader now. She lOves Kipp, she gets a lot of improvement, for example, reading up to 2 leveal now, a lot of writing, book report, she is learning little bit geometry now. She loves this school, I remember when she first comes to this school, she told her reading teacher that she doesn't like to read. Now she enjoys to read all kinds of books at school, home and on the weekend also. We are extremely happy see her excell very fast on everything, and she works hard and set high expectation. This school has a great teacher, principal and my daughter can call teacher after school for question on homework. Teacher, staffs are extremely helpful and skillful. Jenny

This is my daughters 4th and final year at KIPP and it will be so sad when she has to leave. She has come so far since being there, she went from being 'far below basic' to 'advance'. She did work hard to get to where she is at but she would have never reached her goal without the help of the teachers and staff at KIPP. I thank God for them everyday.

KIPP is an outstanding school, and it has an outstanding staff! I was set to put my daughter in a different school, but had read and heard wonderful things about KIPP. One of the best decisions I've ever made! KIPP's motto is ' Work hard, be nice', and that is exactly what the students and teachers do here. Middle school can be a difficult, transitional time. KIPP instills the values of a strong work ethic and self-pride in the children, so badly needed for them to be successful in high school, college and beyond. Everyone in the school community works hard together, and they support one another. My daughter is happy, thriving, and setting goals for herself - at the age of 12! She enjoys her classes, loves her teachers, and has made some wonderful friends at KIPP. KIPP quietly does what it need to do. Go Bulldogs!

This is a excellent school because they are very strict to the students and are very helpful when the students are struggling in a subject and don't rest till they get it!!!

i think this school is for people that really want to learn. but is to strict like they have a bad uniform. horace mann and everett are better.there test scores are better

My child was bored at his old school. Kipp and the staff there are amazing at keeping it alive for the kids. The day my son said i like it here because they give me enough time to do my work i new we had struck gold. He's no longer in threat of falling between the cracks.

Before going to Kipp, my daughter was bored at school in the SFUSD - simply not challenging enough for her. At Kipp, she's learning a lot and loving it. I'm happy that she's finally learning what she needs to learn to do well. Perhaps the school could add a mid-morning recess so the children have more time to also develop socially, that's all.

My daughter stared out struggling, thanks to the 'No Child Left Behind Act', she was so far behind being pushed through the system. We enrolled her at KIPP a bit reluctant at first, but it turned out to be a Blessing... She is making the 'grade', and most importantly she is getting it! My oldest is currently in private school, an assessment from KIPP revealed what me & my husband thought (but his current school deny), that he is not proficient in his grade. We are in the process of the enrollment with my oldest child. KIPP is a positive school, and great leadership & vocational training you just won't get from a private or traditional school. If you want you child to be supported daily, encouraged they can go to college. The teachers are alway on-top of things, and there level of communication with us is amazing. Thank you KIPP! We now have two children in this school. After watching them both fall behind while in the SF public elementary schools we were desparate to find a reasonable alternative. Both of them love the school, despite the extended hours and hard work they do. In his first year our oldest went from testing below proficiency in all test areas to high proficiency or above in all test areas. At the same time he has matured and becoming a better human being. The administration and teachers are responsive but do not compromise their high expectations. The school has a rigid structure, yet treat all with respect and acknowledge differing views.

How many schools give out teachers phone numbers? KIPP/SFBAY does! My son called his science teacher three times in one day. I have a meeting every week with all 7th/grade/teachers1:1. KIPP teachers really care about the students. Preparation is for college and post-graduate. 7:30a.m. to 5:00 p.m., too much time? No,my son loves it and hates to be late or miss a day of school. The children are extemely respectful to eachother and adults. KIPP has changed my son into a different person, a 340 degree change for the better. End of the year trip ~2005~ LasVegas /UNLV ~LosAngeles/Dodgers base game/Magic Mountain/ UCLA ~ Bakersfield free 6thgarders. You can't get a more stimulating environment for your child both academically or behaviorial wise. 7:15, the principal,Ms. Glassie, greets the orderly,pre-collegate/students (every morning)~5:00p.m.(every-evening)she is outside to see them leave. Excellence,Dedication, keyphrase,teachers, children, parents, we all make a commitment. When I see my son running in the building I know he is getting the best college-prep education he deserves, from professional/qualified-teachers, whose only goal for these kids~College!

About the tests


In 2011-2012 California used the California Standards Tests (CSTs) to test students in English language arts in grades 2 through 11; math in grades 2 through 7; science in grades 5, 8 and 10; and history-social science in grades 8 and 11. Middle and high school students also took subject-specific CSTs in math and science, depending on the course in which they were enrolled. The CSTs are standards-based tests, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of California. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the tests.

The different student groups are identified by the California Department of Education; if there are fewer than 10 students in a particular group in a school, the state doesn't report data for that group.
