I attended VOP for my Freshman and Sophomore years. I always got the sense that the teachers were not accredited. Most classes were unorganized, and often the teachers did not seem confident in their teachings. Brother Sherwood, the principle, also taught an elective "law" class...none of his lectures made sense, and were also unorganized. I believe most students took the class because it was humorous to watch Brother Sherwood ramble on and make zero sense...additionally iit was an excuse to just sit in a class that didn't require any effort to pass. The only teacher that I felt was genuine was Sister Brenda...she taught well and gave inspiration to her students. She was very personable and was sincerely concerned about your future. In a nut shell VOP is the private school that accepts all of the students that were rejected from other private schools or got into trouble at the public schools... essentially a last ditch effort to keep your kid out of a continuation school. This school is very strong in teaching good values, morals, principle and religion, but academically not worth the money.
I attending this school from Pre-school to the second semester of my Sophmore year in High School. If any rating is worth reading, it is mine. I currently know all or some of the teachers who teach at this school. When I attended, there was not one teacher who had a teaching credential, and they were never prepared for class. I understand that they Principal has amazing ideas, hopes and dreams for each student, but the fact is, he cannot and will never deliver. He doesn't have the staff. Investing your money into this school would be a complete waste. When I attended, safety was of the least importance. The criteria for studies was of the least standards. When I transfered to a Public School, it was a intellectual shock for me. I struggle very very hard. I succeeded, by many students who will granduate will not.
I have known Principal Sherwood Jansen for more than 25 years. He is a phenomenal person. He is an ideal leader and principal. There is no one more passionate in seeing students succeed. He see and firmly believes that every person has absolute destiny of greatness in there lives. He is willing to go the extra mile in helping people reach there potential. I am a former employee and parent of a child that attended VOP Academy. If I could have afforded to send all 3 of my children to the VOP I would have. Meet Principal Jansen and when you leave you will wish you could have attended school under his leadership!
I am now a college student, who has done well despite going to Voice of Pentecost. Although Voice of Pentecost has a wonderful goal, leadership, headship, which is so much emphasized by the principal, Brother Sherwood Jansen, it does not do anything to carry out it's goals. It emphasizes looks over style. It has children's parents pay a lot of money on expensive executive-like uniforms, but it does not spend a dime on quality books. The teaching is also underrated because many of the teachers do not know how to teach a classroom or manage a class. This is not the ideal place to send your kids.
This is an amazing school with a HUGE emphasis on leadership training. If you want your child to bypass rebellion, and to be great leaders, you need to consider the Voice of Pentecost. God is leading this school, and the alumni will be major leaders.
Although I believe the attitude of the Principal is a very good attitude, the academic standards are not commensurate to the expectations that Christian Standards should have. A safe environment without maximizing the opportunities that can come out if are not understood. Teachers should be held to a higher standard of assessment not base their abilities on just availability. I believe this school has the potential to make a major difference in the lives of our nation through cultivating a generation of leaders with the God-given destiny to change the world. Good intentions are not enough. You need a plan to produce God's best. I think the school means well and believe that my child benefited as much as he/she could have but found a school in the city with a vision producing more balance to produce the leaders the Lord is looking to use in the pivitol day of this age.
