I absolutely LOVE this school. Yes, there have been some growing pains with the move from a smaller K-5 school to a bigger K-8 school but it's already better than when school started. Vice-Principal Sr. Alegre is very involved, caring and I trust that he will make the school shine. I am relieved to know that the payoff is that my child will be in a this tight-knit and very warm community for the next 9 years. Maestra Linda is wonderful beyond words and my child genuinely enjoys going to school every day. I would make it my first choice school again in a heartbeat and am looking forward to working hard to make it as good of a school as it can be for all Buena Vista children and making friends in the process.
I love the participation and caring form from the staff and parents, parents look after all kids and the teachers are just great, they really care for the students education and well being, first child we did Catholic school, this time around I went public education and choose Buena Vista, could not be happier, my kindergardner has learned a lot both in spanish and english, I just love the skill my daughter is getting from Buena Vista, and the principal Mr. Alegre well he is just a very caring man for the children in his school. Just like Mr. Alegre says Buena Vista is chevere!!!!!
The teachers at Buena Vista are very dedicated. They really care about the students. This full Spanish immersion school has a warm heart and a great spirit. The arts program exposes the students to art, dance and music in a wide variety to really help them tap into learning and observing in different ways. The parent community is very supportive of the teachers and students. Parents work hard with the teachers and staff to help maintain a great dynamic leaning experience for the kids.
because we have a very strong community. teachers and principal are amazing
Buena Vista is a small school in a big city. As a parent, I am excited to be a part of such a warm and caring community of students, teachers and parents. The children are all in a Spanish Immersion program, giving them a lifelong skill of being fluent in both Spanish and English by the time they graduate 5th Grade. It's a great public school!
Love this school. Incredible teachers who care. The field-trips are amazing and an overall loving school.
If you believe in your child's ability to make the most of what is offered then Buena vista is the place for you. I have two children who have gone through the program and they have continued on in tough academic settings earning high marks without struggling. The offerings are rich and varied from the opportunity to become fluent in a two languages to a high quality art program. But more than that Buena Vista is a school with great spirit and heart. I love the post about the graduation ceremony. Buena Vista dances, drums and celebrates with children. And in this day and age of standards we need more schools like BV. The key here is that you will get out of the school what you put into it.
I can only speak to the Aftercare Program...it looks a bit chaotic, but for my daughter, after sitting still all day in a Spanish Immersion kindergarten that is faily structured, I love that at the aftercare program she can run around, or not, paint, sing, play outside, do art projects, read books, or play games. I think she enjoys the freedom a lot.
we came to BV when my son was in the 4th grade; he has made a great improvement with his reading & writing. the teachers are good and they care about their students.
My child graduated from this school and while 70% of the effort was worth it the school lacked a strong academic effort primarily for the non-english speaking children. As an emerging spanish program with a 90% spanish/10% english model the students get very little english throught the 3rd grade. This benefits non-latinos. Overall the school is safe and hopefully now that they have rid themselves of the Mexico trip they can hopefully continue their fundraising and direct those funds to after school programs.
