Francis Scott Key is a great school with excellent staff dedicated to the children and school community! The school works seamlessly with community based organizations which enables the delivery of additional school services that benefit every child. The principal's door is also open all the time. He never gives you the feeling that he is too busy and welcomes everyone. Mr. Wong's drum beat is always "It's for the kids." Key also has the largest population of inclusion students in the district. Mainstream classes are brought into the inclusion classes where they learn about the children, their needs, and their needs - a teaching opportunity that fosters dignity, understanding and compassion. Parent involvement is always welcome and participation in volunteer events is high. The school/parent relationship is a large focus at Key and brings with it an additional layer of resources every school needs. Key is a Great School!
Our oldest child went to Kindergarten last year at FSK. I was a nervous wreck and frankly not happy that we didn't get into what we perceived as a better school. Our teacher Mrs. Leong was amazing. My daughter transitioned in right away and fell in love with her teacher and learning. You can tell the principal Mr. Wong cares about the students and tries his best every day. The PTA is picking up steam and actively involved in making FSK a great place for students. There are several after school activities for children who have working parents. And the parents step up at every function to make sure that it goes off without a hitch. If I had known during the kindergarten sign up process what I know now, I would have made FSK my number one choice.
The principal is extremely prudent in spending money for betterment of students and teachers, the teachers are all dedicated, caring, and long-time veterans, and the students are getting brighter each year. After school programs are numerous to choose from, and fundraising is non-commercial. It's a great place to learn.
My child has never been happier at school. He is in Kindergarten and loves it there. I believe this school provides a comfortable learning evironment and has the best teachers to stimilate young minds. My son tells me something new he'd learned each day. The amazing part is that he actually remembers and is able to talk about it with a lot of interest and excitement.
Caring, committed teachers, principal, and parents. It is our first year at FSK and everyone has made us feel very welcome!
Of all the schools I toured during SFUSD's lottery enrollment process, Francis Scott Key Elementary was the only full inclusion public elementary school that was warm, welcoming, and open. The Principal himself made an appointment with you to give you a 1:1 tour instead of how other schools would do parent-led tours with 50-100 other parents. Principal Wong answered all my questions, was honest and candid about improvements that could be done and was proud of the school's accomplishments. I feel he genuinely cares about all his students, special needs or not. He's also very supportive of the teachers, who are all very dedicated, caring, committed, loving and nurturing. One of the teacher's received Mayor Newsom's Teacher of the Month award and I believe she greatly deserved it. Even when I asked to observe and sit in during class time, the teachers and the principal were always very accomodating. FS Key is truly a caring and inclusive school community. The inclusion teacher is also very committed to her students' needs. I absolutely adored, Ms. Lily Lee, my son's kindergarten teacher. If there is such a thing as a perfect teacher, Ms. Lee would be her! I also love our PTA! I invite you to check out our school's website: http://www.francisscottkeyschool.org/home. Good luck in your search!
From the principal to the teachers, parents and volunteers it is all about the kids and community. The way special kids are included brings tears to my eyes.
This is a great school. My son is in Kindergarten and has really learned a lot. The staff are genuinely concerned about the students and work very hard with a lot of patience to educate the children. And education means not just academics but socialization as well. The school also has a wealth of after school offerings to futher enrich the children. Among current programs my son has participated in are Mandarin and an art class. Older kids can participate in after school music, martial arts and more.
I am a new parent at FSK and feel like I just won the lottery (Actually, there was a lottery involved, but that's another story). Walking four blocks to school can't be beat. Accommodating and caring teachers and a stellar Principal. Great afterschool care and enrichment programs fill the bill. Real family feel, strong, but not pushy, PTA. Oh how I wish this school went to 8th!! LOVE IT!!
This is a great school. I am so glad my son is going here. The principal is fantastic and involved in everything; he even teaches an after school class. The teachers are great and very caring and they put so much time into their classes and planning their classes that I wonder if they have any time for themselves. The PTA always has something going and that really excites me. They may not make a lot of money, but as our principal says, we don't really need to. How many schools can say that now-a-days? I consider our family incredibly lucky to have been assigned to Francis Scott Key!
This is the place where you want to be for your children and yourself. FSKey offers many parent and community involvement. I continue to be tremendously satisfied. During my initial visit to the school, I went unannounced, arrived after the dismissal and the principal was extremely welcoming and very friendly. Upon my return to revisit the school I was encouraged to conduct classroom visits so that I can feel comfortable on finding a good match for my daughter since we were transferring from another school. The principal made it a point to help ease the transition for my daughter and played with her during recess. FSKey has a wonder staff and a great parent community. It offers FREE after-school programs that is full of enrichment of every kind. I have found a true gem in a quiet neighborhood.
This is our 5th year at FS Key. We have watched it evolve over the years into a 'better than we thought' school. The afterschool programs are wonderful. The PTA helps to bridge the gap when it comes to extracurricular activities. The teachers are great, the principal is understanding and the children trust him and the staff! This is a great place for families who are looking for a safe, trustworthy place to have their Elementary aged child.
I am a mother of 3 and they've all attended this school. I am proud to say this school taught my children and I a lot. The principal is wonderful. He focuses on the the education of children making sure every child is learning and having fun. During PTA meetings his leadership skills really show, which lead me to the PTA system here at this school. The PTA provides and fundraise for many activities. They also talk about things going on about school which is crucial. The teacher and facility excellent as well. My children all received great education from the supportive teacher and staff. The school is pretty big and clean. Overall I really suggest any parent who has a child going in elementary school to apply to this school. It truly is an awesome school.
This is the best school in San Francisco. I have two children went to this school from K to 5th grade. The teacher are fabulous and professional and the principal are great!
I have a daughter 2nd grade at Francis Scott Key Elementary. The school has been just a wonderful place for her to grow academically and socially into her own person. Her teachers have been top-notch--caring, creative, and experienced. The principal is hand-on, knowledgeable, and goes to the nth mile for the students and the school. The free after-school tutorial/enrichment programs work with classroom teachers to complement the curriculum. The PTA is active and friendly, never aggressive, and engages the neighborhood and community throughout the year. FSK is a community, a family. My daughter has thrived during these 2+ years and I continue to expect great things from her at Francis Scott Key.
After nearly a dozen school tours, I am very impressed with Francis Scott Key's programs and teaching staff. The teachers are experienced and kind, and the principal is very approachable. I found that this school has many perks and solid programs in addition to the regular curriculum: a nutrition program and coordinator, instrumental music, opera education, symphony education, poetry and storytelling consultants, art consultants, and various support staff. The after school possibilities included enrichment activities such as martial arts, Chinese language classes, Academic chess, crochet class, cooking, dance, piano, guitar, as well as academic tutoring and homework help. An added plus was the huge playyard. I was also happy to hear and see an energetic and enthusiastic PTA supporting new and existing programs. With the school's solid test scores and extracurricular civilities, this is a community worth checking out.
FSK is a great neighborhood school in the Sunset district of San Francisco. I have two children at FSK and have loved every teacher we've had. I have one child in Special Education and one child in general ed. Both programs have met my needs, and the inclusive environment of the school made us feel very welcome. The principal is very hands-on, and the staff has been helpful and kind. The student body is diverse, but mostly local families that care about each other. We have been very happy here, especially with the sped program. Francis Scott Key Elementary is a great neighborhooh school in San Francisco!
My younger son went to FS Key for kindergarten. We felt that the school is doing a good job given the population it draws from (lots of lower income and English learner students), but wanted a better school in the end. His first kindergarten teacher was very good; however we were disappointed when she was replaced before the end of the year with another teacher who was not as good. This was done with only 8 weeks of school left, which we felt was inappropriate and we were unhappy with the way it was handled. The school is well run generally, with good discipline and attention to learning. We did wish there was more parent involvement.
This school is a great learning environment filled with great activities throughout the whole school year. The teachers are well experienced and helpful. The principal and staff mambers are fantastic.
