As new parents to the school, with a son in second grade, we have been very impressed by the active involvement of the teachers, administration, and PTA. The focus is clearly on providing a strong, positive learning environment for the children.

I think my son's wonderful Kindergarten teacher has her heart and soul into making his class a fun and happy place to learn. Eventhough school starts at 7:50 he has never once said he doesn't want to go, which for us says a lot! Other parent involvement at Lafayette seems to be very enthusiastic with many showing up at Back to School Night. Lafayette has a very active PTA that fosters a real feeling of community at Lafayette.

My son learns what he supposed to learn at his aged 6. His class teacher works hard to teach her students & she always keeps up with her work. It has better learning environment & outstanding teachers.

The principal is warm and welcoming. There is a dynamic group of parents who make things happen at the school. The teachers are great. It is a supportive and fun environment to learn; my daughter can't wait to go to school!

Lafayette is a wonderful neighborhood school, with dedicated and experienced teachers, a warm and friendly principal, and a terrific PTA. We have fantastic parent involvement that has contributed to so much change in the past few years--including the addition of a bike rack, building a garden, teaching our children to compost/recycle, bringing Art in Action to our school, creating a fun and profitable school auction--the list goes on. Lafayette is a wonderful school!

I love that Lafayette has gone out of its way to include children with many disabilities into it's community. Despite initial opposition by some staff and parents, it now has a small garden, a great first step in getting children to care about their environment and actually improving the quality of life for all community members of the school & neighborhood. The teachers put in long hours for little pay, clearly demonstrating their commitment to the role of teaching.

I am both a parent of a student at Lafayette and a teacher there. I am more than pleased with the education my son has received and is receiving there. The school has a supportive staff that works to meet each student's needs. My colleagues are dedicated, caring, and effective teachers. It is fantastic place to work, in a great neighborhood with wonderful families. Our community really works together to help the children learn.

The PTA is very involved with students and school's activities. I love the Art-in-Action program which given to students K-3. It provides fun leaning experience about arts to young kids. It also provides tons of educational field trips to students. I'm glad that my son attending this school. Bravo, Lafayette! Keep up the great work!

The community is friendly and the PTA is active. My kids feel safe, smart and cared for. They like their teachers and make good friendships. The school hosts an awesome array of guests for monthly assemblies. The school just had new water fountains installed and the kids bathrooms were just remodeled!

Summer program 1

About the program
  • Each program has an academic, enrichment and physical activity component. The programs are based on a youth development model and include project based learning activities. The summer programs are operated by community based organizations that are contracted by SFUSD to provide the services based on grants to the school from California Department of Education. Each organization has a site specific enrollment process. Priority enrollment goes to the students from the school site. Students from other SFUSD schools are eligible to apply though in many of the elementary schools there is more demand than available slots. Funding changes year to year and program offerings change.
