I really enjoyed my time in RMS. The staff is amazing, teachers care and you learn a lot. Students are very together and have high school and academic spirit.

The hidden gem of middle schools in the SFUSD system. Energized faculty, highly-visible principal, relatively small size compared to other middle schools in the system, good overall academic performance, and high participation in school sports and band. Parent involvement is not as strong as I've seen in other schools around the district, but improving.

My kids THRIVED at this school. We moved here late into the year 2009/10 school year. My kids already had the "new kids in school angst" along with the middle school jitters. After 1 week into the school, both kids, 7th & 8th grade, had made quality friendships. The kids also excelled in academics as well as sports and band. The life lessons learned there, as well as the academics, will get them far in life.

I think this is a great school. The teachers I have interacted with our commited to excellence, inovative and caring. The principle and vice principle are excellent. They also have an excellent IEP coordinator who makes the most of her limited staff. The school is also located in a safe neighborhood.

Roosevelt is the best thing that has happened to my children and I. The school is academically challenging, the discipline is pretty much OK -even though, not perfect- the staff is a good team of teachers and personnel and the Principal is a super professional that is taking Roosevelt throught the right path: he always has a open door policy and cares about what happens in the school.

Roosevelt is the best school ever, don't just take it from me, when I first entered at the ice cream social I hated the idea of leaving fifth grade and going there, I am an eighth grader graduating this year, and I have grown up so much, the teachers are caring and everyone cares about you at roosevelt. At roosevelt you discover who you truely are, and its where dreams begin. You learn to take flight and no regrets never looking back, succeeding in whatever you do in life. I nevr expected to end up loving it here, Roosevelt is more than just another school for us, to me and my friends, its home. You can be whoever and whatever you want to be. everyone opens you with open arms. I learned in sixth grade reach for the moon, even if you miss, you'll land among the stars. fly with us! (=

Parents are best suited to rate schools precisely because they have first hand experience. My oldest son graduated from RMS and my youngest son started this year. It is a good school, with excellent academic honors classes and caring teachers. It prepares the kids well for high school and I highly recommend it. Don't judge a book by its cover, the core of this school is golden.

Parents shall be responsibly impartial when rating the school where their respective children attend. Let's face it that RMS is not a aa-rated school by all means.

Teachers are great!! As a first year Roosevelt parent, I like it though I never had a chance communicating with the principal and she doesn't smile a lot, I still like the school a lot. The teachers are amazing. They are willing to help students with extra time/efforts and passion. Ms Lam in the office is definitely an asset to the school who makes RMS like home to students and parents.

I am and was very dissapointed with Roosevelt Middle School. Even though our child is an 'A' student...the administration would not enrooll our child into honors classes. Accountability is absent from this school. Our child was informed that the homework assignment was not completed and handed in, well we are very active parent and had photocopied and signed the homework for our own files because the teacher would routine give our child zeroes on assingments. When we complained to the counselor...the answer we had recieved was ' I'll look into it'. And that was that. If your child in in honors or in a special needs student, you will get the most attention from the school....if your child is not in these categories, they will fall between the cracks and will be forgoten which will lead to a less than desirable high school

I am a 7th grader fall '08. I think that Roosevelt Middle School is a excellent school. The teachers and staffs are very nice, and funny. Some teachers may be a bit more strict than other teachers, but i can tell that they are using their own ways to teach us. I think the school assemblys are really fun. I hope other students will agree with me that Roosevelt is the #1 middle school in our hearts. Go trogens!!

I am a student at Roosevelt Middle School and a 7th grader going to 8th grade...Roosevelt is the best school ever for me. And it's in my opinion that it is. Roosevelt is a good school and the gym teachers help you a lot. Sure some teachers might be boring for other students but at least it's a free education and they spend their time to help you on it. The teachers work really hard for those 5 days. So then you better listen good or you waste all their effort on teaching you... Oh and there is a after school program called Beacon.. it's a really good program it helps you with h/w or you can play sports and other fun stuff. So pick RMS u won't regret it.

i am currently attending roosevelt as a 7th grader. i am in honors, and overall, my teachers are pretty good. i really enjoy home arts, where i developed my cooking and sewing skills. in 6th grade, all the other students and teachers made me feel very welcome; i quickly made a new group of friends, as i was the only person from my elementary school attending roosevelt. overall, this is a great school.

as an alumni I have to say that even though the student population is HUGE it doesn't negate from the student experience, it's also one of the only middle schools in SF that has special ed and GATE classes. my only wish was that there was a drama department, though the English teachers do have students dramatize certain projects

Maybe it is the lack of discipline here. It is embarassing and they are endangering the school's image and safety.

Some of the teachers here, many of them, are smart and hard-working, and they like kids... certain individual ones are even gifted. The same isn't true of the administration, unfortunately, leading to little parent involvement and not much development of the school's potential. Music, art, and electives have been severely reduced in recent years. Slow learners and underachievers are excluded from these hands-on classes where they might experience relatively more success, making the school not at all good for the self-esteem of intellectually and academically weak students.

Closed door policy where parents and caregivers as well as students feel unwelcome and not valued. Unfriendly environment where less and less initiative is taken by the shrinking PTSA and the frustrated faculty, the API fails to rise for all subgroups, and a once-good school grows increasingly mediocre-to-bad.

The teachers are well educated and effective, but the administrators control all decisions and do not value the opinions of the parents, teachers, and staff. As a result, few people volunteer to help, and the school suffers.

The teachers in my son's 7th grade honors program are experienced. I don't think we could find a better group of teachers anywhere, and I have been to several open houses for public and private schools in SF. The honors students are well behaved and the parents care very much how well their children are doing in school. The honors program is like a school within a school. He has music class everyday- he is learning his second instrument, science lab, pre-algebra, english and social studies. The homework is demanding and he is learning study skills to prepare him for high school. The 'beanery' serves fresh cooked food everyday. PE teachers offfer a variety of in class sports as well as after school. The school is a good size, big enough to offer electives and small enough for my son to fell he is part of the school.

I have attended this school recently. This school has regular classes and honor classes. There is a music program which I participated in. They practice during class time and perform for assemblies or concerts. Occasionally, the orchestra will compete for medals. The music program was very fun. There are sports such as track, basketball, baseball, volleyball. There is an art or cooking class as well. Overall, Roosevelt was interesting and fun.

I left Roosevelt at the right time. The newest principal has been nothing but a nuisance, cutting off useful classes like the award winning Jouranlism program and instating the Yearbook class. The school is in need of major financial aid. With that, the school will be much better, although the principal is still there.

This is a great school. My youngest child will be graduating in May. The teachers here really care and go the extra mile to assist children that are in need of extra help. I like the way tolerance for all is rule here. Get to know your childs teachers and counselors and get involved. Its the best way to keep in touch with what your child is doing and what is going on in the school. Join the PTA, volunteer on field trips and generally be around the school. Ms. Jackson, Mr. Lund, Ms. Hermansen, Ms. Maxson all fabulous teachers and counselors. I would recommend this school to anyone wanting a caring learning environment for their children.

If your child is in the GATE program, he/she will get an excellent education. The teachers are innovative and passionate about their jobs. They genuinely care about their students and have always been available to provide any extra help. I found the administration to be difficult, inflexible, and not open to communication, both with the student body and the parents. Class size this year are overly full and the school administration seems disorganized.
