I just want to add to my previous review that the Open Classroom tends to have a good reputation; students go on to do well at Drake High School, particularly independent study.
A joyful place where the whole child is valued, parents participate in the daily life of the school and education is hands on.
The open class at san geronimo elementary is fantastic. It is setup in a 'pod' system in which each classroom is connected to the next, the children are encouraged to interact with the older/younger grades than themselves and the teachers will often setup activities in which the older children teach/assist the younger. The focus in kindergarten is not so strongly directec toward academia rather to develop the childrens social abilities and develop an interest in learning rather than be forced to do lines or learn by rote. All the children have access to art, music, sports, gardening etc. Best of all parent involvement is strongly encouraged, in fact they ask all parents (who can) to co-op on a regular basis. So it is not uncommon to see a parent or 2 in every classroom on a daily basis. I rate this school very highly.
