Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

Branham is a hidden gem. My son graduated this past year and my daughter is entering her sophomore year at Branham. The environment is extremely accepting with tons of activities and clubs to keep the kids interested and social. I would recommend this school over most every neighboring school. There is less entitlement and attitude by a mile than you find at Leigh. Zero tolerance for bad behavior or bullying. The teachers are for the most part very dedicated and prepare the students for testing and college. You get out of the school what you put in. If your child needs to be pushed a ton and have their hand held then perhaps a private school would be better. If you and your child are willing to manage the process some and take advantage of the resources this school is great. Some parents expect the school to do the work and blame others for not getting the SAT scores or grades required to attend their preferred college. The resources are all in place if you want to take advantage of them.

I've been pleasantly surprised by Branham. My daughter just finished her Freshman year and loves the school, its activities, and the student population. The only issue was a first-year teacher we complained about that administrators are attempting to coach. This is the only teacher that my daughter has ever not liked. Hopefully her experience with this teacher will not dampen her interest in the topic. Branham was firm in keeping my daughter in the class when we requested to move her.

Our experience has been disheartening. There is serious grade inflation going on because of Standards Based grading where a student can retake tests. It might help the mediocre student but for those who need to buckle down (discipline) and study and get it right the first time, it is a disaster. They want to be "cutting edge" and be the "first" in the area to make this work....our kids are being used as experimental rats in a horribly flawed system. If I had known, I would have moved before subjecting my kids to this messed up system. Think of it..colleges don't let you retake tests! There are great teachers (Nguyen, Johannsen, Fernandez (an absolute gem) and then there are others who will remain nameless. The culture is stifling and there is a fair amount of mean spirited bullying going on and although I realize this happens everywhere this school's administration is more focused about getting every student to participate in AP classes so that they can take credit for a school with improved ratings, than fostering an environment of kindness and child focused. Kids need advice about their lifestyle before taking on a huge AP load. Much better AP & College counsel needed.

Branham is a friendly outgoing school. It has really been great for my son who is now graduating this summer. The new principal and assistant principal work great together and have really striven to push the school and academics forward. More AP classes being started this year. The teachers have been both good and bad, but nothing is perfect.

I am about to enter my junior year at Branham. It could be a lot better, but it could also be a lot worse. Many of the electronics need replacing, the buildings need remodeling (a bigger gym would be especially nice, considering our large student body - it's stifling during the MANY and UNNECESSARY rallies), and a more sincere effort could be made by the staff members (especially the counselors) to consider individual student's needs and concerns. Some teachers are much more qualified than others, and it definitely shows. However, while I am on this subject I feel the need to mention that the single best teacher I've ever encountered in my life instructs here. Compared to Leigh and a few others in the area - but especially the former - the student body is much more accepting and openly kind to others. The school is ethnically diverse and gay-friendly. Yes, there are the bullies and drama queens, but this happens everywhere. It is not a specific trait of Branham. Overall, this school isn't amazing academically or aesthetically. But if you're looking for a kind student body, helpful teachers, and opportunities to participate in community activities, you should consider Branham.

I have two kids at Branham. Both kids have had a wonderful experience. We have found the teachers and administrators to be kind caring and helpful. In regards to retaking tests, It's all about learning the material and getting It down. My kids have mastered their subjects.

I am concerned about hte use oft he Pickering/ EFFECTS style grading that waters down the grades. Studnets are allowed to take the same test over again multiple times. My student's Spanish teacher gives a C grade for knowing 20 words. The english teachers re- adminster the same tests for full credit. This is not typical at other schools in our area. our son is a high achiever, but I am afraid he is getting a sub-standard education compared to Leland, Leigh HS and Lynbrook , where the academics are much more challenging.

Branham really tries to keep kids engaged, keep the standard high and promote high academic excellence. We have been in the music department for 2 years and the kids are excelling! The instructor can be a bit challenging though. The test scores include the special ed. which not all high schools in the area have to do so the scores aren't really an indicator. The front office lady is mean and unhelpful... come on Branham... replace her!

this is not the school that put students first and looking how to help them to be successful and motivated. The stuff is superficial and will not look how to help student. The stuff have not professional attitude to help students in a very important live period.

This school has gotten better and better as the years go by. They have always had an excellent, extremely involved young staff, particularly in the History Department, but more recently in Math, English, Special Needs etc. In 2010 we got a new Athletic Director who has done wonders for the athletic department. He has helped triple the size of the Athletic Boosters, organized the coaches, streamlined processing of athletes and much more. He is extremely present and active on campus. In 2011 we got a new Activities Director who has started to make significant changes and boost school spirit and participation in events. He has an excellent relationship with teachers, parents and students. In 2012, just a month ago, Branham hired a new principal who has reignited the staff, been present at almost every function on campus, is enthused about changing Branham and is direct, confident and enthusiastic. This school continues to thrive, and test scores rise (although that isn't really a wonderful indicator of a healthy school) even with little money and support from the district and I continue to be impressed more and more each year.

I've just begun going to this school, and my emotions about it are a bit mixed. The school offers great academics, but the teachers are the kind that are hard on grading and leave you a bit on your own. The campus and facilities are great though.

I don't really enjoy the atmosphere of the school, but then that's my problem. I think that this place could use some remodeling, because I think the brick walls are pretty ugly, but the teachers are great and the people here are pretty nice

Teachers and administration are appallingly closed-minded. Grading makes no sense whatsoever and puts A+ students at the same level as D- ones. Unfriendly atmosphere. Forces students to participate in school events for a grade. I would not recommend this school.

Hi out there! If your child is an 8th grader and your child is a musician...I would recommend Branham over Leigh in a HEART BEAT! The music directors at Branham have a great deal more experience than those at Leigh. The Leigh band director is a rookie and does not know how to teach music at all. Diane Wyant, the Branham director, has been teaching for almost 25 years and runs a tight ship! She is in fact THE director that built Leigh High School years ago and gave them the reputation as being an award winning program. So if you want your music student to be in the BEST hands...choose Branham! We did and we are excited about our child's future as a musician. Ms. Wyant is amazing and Ms. West the choir director really knows her stuff!

Branham High school is top notch!! If your child is a musician, the Royal Alliance Marching Band is a GREAT place for them to be. Diane Wyant, the director of bands, is a CLASS ACT!!!! She works hard to instill all the values WE as PARENTS know are necessary for OUR KIDS to SUCEED!!!! THE BAND is the HEART of this SCHOOL!!! TOP NOTCH!!!! A TRUE class ACT!!!!!

Branham High School is the diamond of the district. It has a small, private school feel with some VERY impressive programs. This school offers a music program that is taught by a veteran music teacher of 24 years...she is truly amazing. The symphonic band is the only one in the district that has received top ratings by the state music teachers association. The director here is the director that began Leigh's program more than a decade ago. The history department is second to none...the backgrounds on these teachers are amazing and incredibly impressive. Also...Branham offers a leadership program offered by Rich Alipaz that tops anything else in CUHSD...he is a Genius!!!!!

I have a student that attends Price Middle School. I am very excited also about my child attending Branham High School next year for the Marching Royal Alliance Band. I met Diane Wyant. She is very good teacher and my daughter very much like her. I look forward to attending Branham High School in the upcoming year.

I am currently a freshmen at Branham High School and I couldn't be happier with the education I am getting here here. I hang out with cream of the crop kids every day and have a sense the my teachers really care about me. I wouldn't have expected so much success in high school, my teachers and councilors really guided me to where I am now. This school has made it very easy for me to transition to high school.

I graduated Branham High School in 2008, and am so thankful i'm out. Aside from the one teacher I had that actually cared about her students in the four years I attented, the teachers could care less about you. Ms. Barger is an amazing teacher who truely cares for her students, if she didn't teach there I would rate this school with no stars. I definitely feel like the teachers are on their own power trip and love being able to tell students what to do, just because they can. Now that I am in college, I couldn't be happier.

2009: Branham High School is an excellently rated school. It now has a proven track record showing continuous improvement in all areas such as - academic scoring; music department (has instructors now in both instrumenal and vocal music); parent participation with H&SC, Sprts Boosters, Music Boosters; has improved student leadership and school spirit participation; departments have consistent, excellent teaching staff; highly qualified, enthusiastic administration with longevity for school growth and maturity; the Royal Alliance Marching Band (marching band for the first time in 28 years at Branham); and consistent Sports programs and leadership. I would highly recommend BHS over and above, and at least equal to other schools in CUHSD.

I am a senior at branham and quite honestly, I couldn't be HAPPIER that I'm graduating this year. Majority of the teachers here lack the ability to motivate students. There have only been a handful of teachers that i have come across that have been able to do this. The administration is...well...it's incompetant when it comes to providing necessary materials for classes. They lack the ability to spend money wisely. An irritating example: they spent money to place hand-sanitizers in each of the classrooms instead of buying necessary supplies for classes, like books. The students here are shallow, and they all lack motivation. Not to mention that the clubs here aren't that good either. While it is improving (albeit slowly), I still wouldn't want to come here again to learn. The departments that i found to be the strongest were the English and History departments. Enough said.

I do have to say that Branham is improving in many ways possible. The sports programs are improving from poor years before, and teachers who have been considered 'bad' have transfered out. The history department seems to be the strongest, while the math department could use some improving. We are still considered the underdogs, but I do believe we would strive to the top if the school could push for it.

My child is currently a Jr. at Branham HS. He has thus far had awesome teachers, and we have found the staff and administration to be both helpful and friendly. If the student is truly there to learn and put the effort into it then the help is there if need be. Branham has many clubs, extracurricular acitivities, and opportunities for parents to be involved. Branham is a great school, with great teachers, great curriculum, and a great student body. Like anything, the more involved and the more effort you put in the better the experience.

As a former student, I'm saddened to see that so many people are disappointed with Branham. No, it's not the greatest school, but the teachers and students work with what they've got. I graduated two years ago, and now I go to UCD. I never felt understimulated or that I wasn't important enough. I had some teachers who were truly there because they wanted to shape today's youth. I was always pushed to do my best. I really feel that the school is trying its hardest, but it's not easy when the school doesn't get as much recognition as others (Leigh), and when there aren't enough offered classes. I had a great time in high school, and some of my teachers are people I will never forget because they were so dedicated.

I am so dissappointed in Branham. The Teachers seem unmotivated and are lazy. The administration seems to have no clue of what is really going on. The school is a mess. I am completely disappointed in Branham High School. The principal and administration do not seem to have a clue about what is going on at their own school, and are rude and distant when speaking to parents. They don't seem to care at all about parents concerns. The sports programs are pitiful. We are already planning a move this summer so that my child can attend a different high school next year. I do not wish this school on any parent! After 3 years of the current administration, I strongly recommend you look elsewhere if possible. Parent involvement is not welcome. I am a former student at Branham High School. My parents were former students. I was a straight 'A' student and played several sports. Some of the teachers really cared and went the extra mile to help students. Others did not care at all. The school has gone down hill. Branham HS has proven it's a great school. The API scores have jumped 37 points when the goal was 4, the STAR exams are on par with Leigh, it has just been recognized as a California Distinguished School, many of the sports programs have been elevated to the top level with many winning championships. The Musical Theater program is UC recognized and won competitions and traveled to England, the Music Department has grown incredibly in all programs of jazz, percussion, choirs, and symphonic band, with students forming various other ensembles outside of class time that are completely supported by the director. Teachers spend a lot of time with their students and genuinely care about their progress. The Administration works with parents continuously with questions, concerns, volunteering and fundraising. Another important point, the culture of the school community is awesome, students not only tolerate each other's differences, but accept them.

Unfortunately Branham High School has been a huge disappointment. Schoolloop is over-rated by the CUHSD. Most teachers don't use it or answer emails. What happened to a 'free public education'? Very poor counselors who often give wrong advice. They did not even record an AP class as such with the UC's this year. So now it will not count for my child! Disappointing school. School Loop is a great concept, but in 3.5 years, less than half of my child's teachers kept it current enough to be meaningful. They have Aeries, too, but most teachers won't use that either. Most teachers do not respond to phone calls or emails. There are a few terrific teachers, but they are the exception at BHS, not the norm. It's interesting that most of the positive reviews here are from BHS faculty!

Branham has been working hard to build up programs, since reopening. It's a nice campus and there are many activities for students to become involved in. There's a lot of school spirit. While there are very good teachers, particularly in the science and social studies/econ/history depts, the math department, in my opinion is not strong. Since Branham s re-opening, the music department s ensemble enrollment has grown, and the level of musicianship has increased greatly. In 2005, the Treble Clef Choir and Concert Band traveled to the Heritage Festival in Anaheim, CA where they competed against other schools from all over the country. Both groups returned with awards and ratings higher than they have been since the school's re-opening. Members of Branham s music department have sat as section leaders at the CUHSD music festival, received command performance rankings at solo/ensemble competitions, and perform professional grade repertoire as singers and pit musicians in Broadway musicals. The level of student achievement is on the rise at Branham. Rob Barnes Music_Director Branham_High_School

Branham high School lacks parent involvement only due to the current adminstration. Parent involvement to them adds 'complexity' that they are not willingly or capable of dealing with. Having been exposed to a variety of high schools, I can give my sincere review of Branham as one of the finest High Schools I have yet to encounter. In addition to the academic opportunities provided for students, Branham has a dedicated and sincere staff and administration that works endlessly to ensure the academic and personal success of each of their students. I would recommend Branham High School to any parent looking for an outstanding school that represents the spirit, integrity, and community that most hope for in a learning environment. As a teacher here, I can assure any parent that Branham works tirelessly to identify and integrate cutting edge teaching and instructional strategies to provide students with the best possible education. Branham students are not only well represented in college, but are well-rounded and involved in multiple activities. It is a wonderful school.

The adacademic programs are mediocre. They're not awful. However, they are slightly watered down for the not as bright kids. This doesn't allow the smarter students to advance, but at the same time allowing others to keep up. Branham does offer an advanced program, but due to open enrollment, it too is watered down. Regarding the availability of music, art, sports and other extracuricular activities-The music in the past has not been phenominal. Leigh is obviously here the better choice. However, the new band director is really leading Branham, creating a better band. The sports are ok. Branham does not offer as many sports as other schools, but the athletic departmenst are rather successful in their leagues.

Branham is a multi-cultural school. In the out-skirts of town, away from most drama, it sits in peace. It is located near other prosperous towns, and offers a state-of-the-art architecture in its buildings. Again, the achievement rate varies among its students. On another note, the teachers varies also. Some teachers are just more talented than others. However, to request a teacher here is quite hard.

Like any school, academic achievement varies greatly among students. There are many success stories of fine young people whom are dedicated and hard-working, with high GPA's and involvment in sports and/or leadership. There are some whom show little to no effort or concern regarding their education, and they tend to be disruptive and rude. There are parents, teachers, and students alike, whom agree that the school would benefit greatly from stronger discipline, higher standards, and less tolerance of adverse behavior.
