I have a child in PHHS. This is the best school in the ESUHS District. Good quality education and activities. As a parent, I'm satisfied.
The academic quality is very satisifactory to what parents want and need. The school in general is very tight when it comes to security. trouble makers are stopped once and only once. Athletics are there to keep the kids out of trouble and to have fun. They coaches not only help them develop as individuals but as players to win. Many schools in the state are very deprived of these characteristics but this is one of the top schools in not only the area but with the state also.
I have been very happy with P.H.H.S My son goes there and is in Drama and has been for the past 3 years, I am so happy that they offer this activity, for him. It has opened him up and made him more out going. I have heard that alot of teachers got their pink slip and could be laid off, there is even rumor that there will no longer be Drama or any other electives in the 2005-06 school year. I sure do hope that the parents rally together to save these electives, so our children can continue to better themselves and they have a safe place to be, other than the streets. I have always felt good about Piedmont, and what they have done for our children but this latest issue is going to change alot of feeling for alot of people.
This school is a great school that provides a safe environment for students and a high level of learning.
With regards to the lanyard issue; it's good that the school makes kids accountable. My daughter has had to go to detention before and I drove her there with glee! Reminding her that she only had to wear it to avoid this. In the real world there are lots of 'rules' to abide by. Kids need to learn how to do so now. I'm an involved parent and believe me, the staff does a lot behind the scenes to make the school environment safe and this is just one of them. What's the big deal? All the kids have to do is wear it. Big deal! Well, that's all. Our school is what it is because of the rules and kids following them.
As a parent I am disappointed in the methods of disciplne used to teach our students about self control. Piedmont Hills has become an enviornment where the young people are learning to not get caught as opposed to doing their best and doing what is right. Using heavy handed disciplne with teenagers backfires and this is what is occuring at Piedmont Hills. Sending students to Saturday School, at the expence of the district, for not having a lanyard around their neck, is both absurd and obscene, a complete and utter waste of district money. How disappointing!
I attended Piedmont Hills and I have to say that this school helped shape the young adult that I am. It helped prepare me for college. The staff is very involved with what is going on with the student body. Piedmont has the best teachers and they really do care about student needs, they are willing to go the extra mile for their students. There athletic program is one of the best in the state. Their performing department is the best in the Bay Area. This school will challenge even the brightest of students and has a very high rate of students continuing their education after high school.
