As I mentioned before the focus of the school and parents is improving. The test score went up in 2012. It is very likely to go up in 2013 by 50 points. All the excellent reviews from parent are matching with the API. I know several people went to UCs and Stanford from Gunderson. There are more on the way to 4 year college. I am giving 4 star because what the school has to offer and progress.

Gunderson High is an excellent school. My son had attended private schools all his life until high school. Gunderson was pretty awesome He has taken advantage of the great A.P. courses available. The teachers are excellent, the principal cares for it's students, and parents, the students are great. It is with great pride that I say my son will be graduating from Gunderson High School - Class of 2013.

Glad to see there are lots of good reviews from parents and students. A school's one of the primary (if not the primary) goal should be education. Parents and staff are working on improving API also.

Gunderson is great, I couldn't ask for a better high school experience. It sucks that it gets such a bad rep because it's actually a really cool place to be. A lot of the people who are afraid of the school and think poorly of it are people who don't really know what it's about. Most of the time, they hear rumors from other people who hear it from other people who have never even been there and they think they know what it's all about but they don't. The administrators and the teachers were AMAZING and they really contributed to who I am today. If I every had a problem with anything, academics wise or even personally, I always knew that I would have someone to talk to. But what really made my time at Gunderson great was playing sports. I played basketball and softball all four years and sometimes, I felt like sports was the only reason I forced myself to go to school. My coaches and teammates were the best and we all spent so much time together that I felt like they were my second family. I gained so much from Gunderson and I really hope others can see how great it is too.

I couldn't be more proud to send my daughter to this school. The teachers are phenomenal and truly care about the students. The school culture is one that is caring and loving to all students. My child is a better person for attending Gunderson.

My daughter loves attending Gunderson. Over the past three years I've seen the school continue to improve academically and socially. The list of opportunities for students to get involved in their school is long and growing, My only negative is that a small number of teachers are still stuck in old ways of teaching that do not engage the students in learning. For these teachers, there's no give and take communication. And others who could improve how they give adequate feedback to students on homework and exams. Your student needs to be motivated and willing to go after class and pester to get what he/she needs. As I said, this is a small number, and they are in every school I've seen.

Gunderson is a good school should you only have easy students. I've had 10 meetings in one semester to try to correct things for my less than perfect child. We are finally having a placement meeting to transfer him out. Once a child has a label, they cannot get through a day it seems without a referral or escort to the asst. principal's office. The principal is generally unavailable except at meetings where she gives the account as if she was a first hand witness. So if you are lucky enough to have the 'perfect' child, Gunderson is a good choice, however, once the child is on the bad side of a teacher, you can expect a nightmare to ensue.

Gunderson High school has a problem with theft. I have 2 children that attend there and someone has stolen there laptops on 2 separate days. I am so fed up with the school's security. No one ever sees anything and it seems they do not care that people are stealing their school! The insurance they have for you to purchase is misleading it DOES NOT cover theft. You are then sent a threatening letter stating your child will not graduate if the bill isn't paid by graduation day.

Gunderson was an awesome school. I graduated from Gunderson in 2007. The teachers there were great. You have a lot of teachers there that really care about the students and want to see them succeed in everything they do. Going into High school, my parents choice was that they wanted me go to Leland. Luckily for me I got into Gunderson and I LOVED it. Gunderson had to be some of the best years of my life so far! Its very diverse, so you learn a lot about other nationalities, and cultures. And to be completely honest, I think that the teachers there are what helped me to graduate. I used to not give a care in the world about school, but they really pushed me and were always there for me. I think all the people who hate on this school are just ignorant and closed minded. Thats all! thanx!

Gunderson often gets a bad rap. However, this school far exceeded my expectations, and I feel I made the right choice by attending Gunderson compared to other schools in the area. The teachers and administrators truly have a heart for seeing kids reach their potential. I love G-town. :)

this school is amazing. people tend to complain all the time about whatever school they go to, and I cant do that about gunderson. the teachers are extremely dedicated here, and the administration is friendly and loved by the students. we have lots of parent participation to help out with dances, fundraisers, and other events. I am very proud that I got the chance to go to gunderson high school.

All schools have problems, Gunderson's just happen to be more stereotyped and publicized, but it is ignorant of people to look down on the school for what they think they know. I Graduated a couple of years ago and I think it is an amazing school. Good students, great teachers, and staff. Many improvements have been made structurally as well. Plus most importantly it give students a tech jump start putting them above the rest when they graduate, and that is important in this technology based world and area with Silicon Valley so close by. My best memories come from this school. It will be number one again someday. Go Grizzlies!

I think the last review just reinforces the changes that have taken place at Gunderson in the last four years. I'm a senior and I am fortunate enough to get accepted into several prestigious colleges, not simply based on the strength of my transcript (also AP test scores, SAP scores, variety of community service, etc.). My peers are also being accepted into great universities. I'm aware of Gunderson's history... but that's just what it is-history! Go grizzlies!!

I graduated from Gunderson several years ago, and I am currently attending a top 25 university. Gunderson has to be one of the worst schools in California. Although I took all the advanced placement course the school had to offer, I did not feel challenged. The teachers will dumb down the curriculum so students who should have never been allowed in the ap class can still obtain As and Bs. Sure this seems great in terms of getting accepted into better colleges, but in reality it hurts the student. Moreover, the majority of student do care about school.

I agree that this school is the new rising star. My daughter is getting the acedemic challenges I would of expected from a higher rated school. The prinicpal demonstrates excellent leadership. Really like the fact that all students have an opportunity to get a free computer. First school I've seen that tries and succeeds tying cirriculum with technolgy. I highly recommend this school. It's really great when I'm a student of Gunderson High. Teachers are very good, they teach us the things we need for life. We also can have laptop to study. I think I don't need to say a lot, if you're a student of GHS, you should know how good it is. I'm proud of my school. I hope it will be the best high school in California in the future.I love it so much. Go Grizzlies.

Gunderson is the school that is sending more kids to college than any other in the SJUSD district. I find it a great school and don't want to [leave]. don't blame the school that you can't get ahead in life. The teachers are great, I am finally understanding math and they offer help as much as they can. Gunderson is a great school it diservs a better reputatioin

The administration is uncooperative and unresponsive. I attended the last three years and am moving away to get out of this school. This school is not the place to be if you want to move on to higher education, where the education is far less than meodicre

Gunderson is a wonderful school! I am so impressed by the quality of teachers and the cohesiveness of the administration. My daughter has not only learned about English, math, etc, but she has also learned to be a caring, passionate young woman. I owe a lot of her growth to the students, teachers, and administraton at Gunderson.

Gunderson is basically a school with no college ready classes. The majority of the kids don't care about school and are just there to socialize. Gunderson just lacks everything good you wantst your child to gain out of school. I do not recomment this school.

The parent involvement at this school is a minium and parents are only seen when there is a situation .Involvement is low, the sports programs are decent, but more often than not the students from gunderson use bad sportsmanship toards other teams.

Gunderson has some great teachers, and administration that works hard with and for the students. Gunderson is held back by the stereotype of past events and reputation. The laptop program is great, but is better if the parent involvement at home helps serve the purpose. The large turn over rate of students makes it hard for extra-curricular to flourish, but there is dedication from staff. Because of past events and a 'perception' they have Zero tolerance for aggressive or violent behavior. It gets nipped and samcked down fast! I have one son at Gunderson and another at Pioneer. As far as discipline goes, I am much more impressed with Gundersons approach.

Gunderson High School is an exceptional school were students can get the opportunity to use the most up-to-date technology and get to experience a learning environment that is very diverse. With many Advance Placement classes, Gunderson High enables students to challenge themselves and further prepare themselves for college. Their extracurricular activites stretch from many community service clubs, to cultural awardness clubs as well. For the past 4-years Ive attended Gunderson High School, I've experienced many good memories that I doubt would not happend if I had choosen elsewhere. One of the main things I loved most about this school is its great amount of different races within the school. I have expanded my knowledge here not only academicly, but also socially because of the fact that you get to interact with so many different people and ideologies.

This School is very high in Academics and kids come out of each class learning something each day. Sports is big in sports and in musical arts. Parents are always helping each other out and yes parents are highly involved in the school.

I was disappointed in this school, although they promise a one laptop per student that they do deliver on and kudos for that however, they do not monitor anything that the student does and nothing is filtered. The teachers are not responsive to the students and unfortunately it seems the students run the school. They spend more time swapping music, viewing DVD Movies and Instant Messaging other students on the laptops than getting work done. Internet use is not filtered and students are online even during class times, how can these students learn anything?

My son attended Gunderson for 9th grade and did not have a good experience. We just moved to the area from southern california and he had a tough time adjusting to the school. The teachers were not very eager to help and did not take notice of his problems. Perhaps it is due to the new environment and his first year in high school, but I expected more support and care from the teachers.
