Hello, we are moving to SJ area this summer (2012)and would like suggestions about the best schools you would recommend. All our kids are high achieving and a big focus of our family. Thank you. Samuel.
My kids are in the Almaden Valley schools (San Jose Unified District) & we do love them but if I had to do it over I'd look into moving to the Union School District-thinking of Guadalupe Elem & Dartmouth MS in particular. SJUSD does not support the AV schools though we are the ones that keep their scores up. Not good. But I've heard wonderful things from parents of Union School District.80392
You should consider the Union School District in southwest San Jose (borders Los Gatos), in particular Noddin Elementary. The API scores are excellent, as is the principal, and the real estate prices are (relatively) reasonable.
Most important for high achieving families, Noddin provides ability-based leveling for reading as well as access to Stanford's cutting-edge online math education program called EPGY (Educational Program for Gifted Youth).
In addition, Union Middle School is one of the best in the area, and is especially strong in math and science. 80077
If you are moving to the San Jose area, be aware that it is not a unified school district for all of Santa Clara county. There are big differences between the many districts. Pay careful attention to the district and school attendance boundaries when selecting housing. City and school district boundaries do not match. You have two kids already in middle school. If I was moving here in that situation and making a home purchase, I would base it on the HIGH SCHOOL attendance area. Housing is very $$$ here either for rental or for purchase. You would be ok in most of the Western suburban areas like Los Gatos, Los Altos, Saratoga, Lynbrook area of San Jose and also parts of Almaden, Berryesa, Silver Creek. Many schools in San Jose here are "impacted", which means crowded, underfunded or limited enrollment. You may not be able to attend your local school your first year if it is fully enrolled, but be sent to another district school. That said, I recommend Union Middle School in Union school district area of San Jose. Guadalupe or Carlton for the elementary or one of the Cambrian district charter elementary schools. They all feed great kids into Campbell Union High School District which is not all that it could be given the area. 79938
Hi. If you would like to have your kids schools be closer together i suppose your Elementary school aged Child could go to Carolyn A. Clark Elementary. They are very effective in teaching children and Have lots of activities and more! My 9 year old daughter is going into 4th grade this year and she just moved back from ohio and shes very excited! For your middle schoolers there is a middle school around the corner of the high school near carolyn clark :) Good luck! 79878
If you are interested in private school, Canyon Heights Academy is great, especially for high achieving kids. It is a Catholic school with very high standards, and most of their graduates get into the top rated private high schools in San Jose. They serve grades pre-school - 8th grade and are in Campbell. They are also very family oriented and have activities for parents as well as students.79536
You must check out Sage Vista School..The school grew over 300% year over year and I keep hearing nothing but great things about the school, staff, and their community.79493
