My son has attended this school since grade 10 and his teachers are always helpful
SLHS seems to really be one of those schools where your experience is what you make of it. If a student is willing to work hard, gets into Honors classes when possible, and participates in extracurricular activities, they can have a great experience. My daughter is just finishing her sophomore year, and I've heard about some terrible teachers but also seen some really good ones. The school is very diverse, and it feels fairly positive, and I think they are making a real effort.
I attended SLHS my sophmore year of high school but I quickly left. I'm sure having the freshman campus has changed the environment of the main campus, but when I went to SLHS it was overcrowded and somewhat scary. If you have anxiety this is not the place to be. Also, If you are a student who did not do very well in previous years and you have to be in the general, college prep classes you're set up for failure. The teachers are boring, and rude. One of my close friends was practically assaulted by a teacher, And my math teacher when I went to SLHS said because I was a "white girl" I should know the meaning of a certain word. If you are an over achiever, you'll survive in SLHS with a completely different experience than us average people.
this school rocks!the teachers don't necessarily care if a student is absent/cuts.The studies are okay...can be boring at certain times. But these teachers actually care and bond with the students they teach. They sure need some funding to get the place in good shape though.
My daughter is an honor student and has a high ranking at the school. Overall I am satisfied
Personally, the people are a little too free to do whatever they please, and the teachers are very boring. Kids don't learn when they aren't mentally engaged. Sitting on your computer all day and giving the kids stupid questions about things that don't even end up on the test should not be tollerated. That's not what you're getting paid for. this and being treated as a number rather than as a human being can really take a toll on the child's mood, grades, and overall outloooks on life. And they wonder why people cut? (I am a straight A/ B student and have never been tardy or skipped a class in my time, by the way)
Don't even get me started on San Leandro High School. This school has some big improvements to make. Now I'm not saying it's a horrible school but I would not ever recommend this school to anyone I know. This school has a lot of unessasary rude behavior and is a bad enviorment and atmophrsere. It is not comfortable to be at this school on most days. So just to remind you that I am not to proud to attend this school.
This school may not have the greatest scores ever but it has a great enviroment and its always cheerful
I'm a senior and although I can't wait to be in college, I enjoyed my time in SLHS. It's a lot more mature than the other schools around, it's very, VERY diverse, the clubs are great and varied, and the teachers really care about us and our needs. It's great; everyone has their own distinct tastes in schools, but San Leandro appeals to most of them. 5/5.
I've gone to sl for 2 years, and I'm sick of it. Everyone here talks the same, dresses the same, there is racial diversity but none personality wise. People here are generally pretty mean to anyone who is different, and there is a lot of violence.
Too me SLHS is not like one of the worse schools. but its pretty bad. students dont really care about their education at that school which gives us that do care a disadvantage. people disupt classes by making rude remarks and opening the doors during class and yelling and pulling other students out of class with no pass and it forces the teachers to chase after them disturbing class time and wasting everyones valuable time.
This school is all around average in what it does. It challenges the good students just enough to keep them from being bored while keeping the future failures off the streets.
My daughter goes to SLHS and she is in the 10th grade and she's a cheerleader. I love the school and so does my daughter. Any school is what you make of it. The teachers are good. And my daughter never wants to miss a day because she enjoys going to SLHS. Most of the kids there are mature for their age. The school is great and continues to improve in every area. Most importantly they have extra activities for the kids and the kids go off to college.
San Leandro high is a great school. I'm sick of it being constantly ragged on. We have very few fights and for the most part, everyone gets along. Sl has greatsports, drama, music, and after school programs. High school is what you make of it, and Sl provides great opportunities .
I'm currently a student here and i'm very saddened to hear these sad reviews. The school has improved drastically from the poor image of the school on the news, racism does not exist as big as it is emphasized, fights are on the low, and academics are at a high. The school offers so many opportunities for kids from all the different academies they offer and AP classes and the wide variety of clubs for all students to find and fit in. Safety is much better now, and having survilence cameras does not mean the school is unsafe, it just promotes safety and i think all school sshould have them. the school is reat,
This school is like any other high school and few fights actually ocurr. The fights are severly over-dramatized! Yes, there is some racism, but no more than any other school. The music and drama departments are good here and there are many creative oppertunities here.
I used to attend at this school at fresh man year , many fights had occur and racism is somthing big. Being picked on was very hard time to focus my school work. Do not let your child attend this school.
SLHS is a great school, the academic programs are wounderful and the music activities are high level. I am very pleased as a parent to have my child attend a great caring school. You Rock
I go to SL and my freshman and sophomore year have really been a positive experience. They provide an honors class for most subjects and most of the teachers are dedicated and have hands-on ways of learning. The drama program is very good, as well as the choir. Our football team is the best in the East Bay, and some of the wrestlers make it to state finals. I personally think that there are not many problems. It all really depends on the things you immerse yourself in. I currently have a 3.927 GPA and plan to take 3 AP courses next year, and I am in 4 community service organizations and have done 3 sports. I really feel I am making the most of my high school experience. It's all about the decisions you make.
My third child will most likely attend SLHS in the fall of 2007. I have been a very active parent and hope to continue to be since parent involvement is key to a successful high school education. I hope the school addresses the current block schedule very soon. While many like the program, students who take music and AP courses suffer. Less electives are available to such students. To participate in music a child must be at school at 7:00 AM. It is a shame that these programs have dwindled over the years of the block. Math instruction has suffered as well with many math courses lengthened to a full year. I wish I was truly excited to send my child to very. I am not. But I will work hard to make his high school years good and memorable.
