this school was a nightmare! Not safe for your kids, bullies etc. I made the principal aware of this and he denied and ignored situation. I worked in the shcools and heard this from others. the good thing there is an option for Templeton Independent study....my child went to college early. Only if parents knew what goes on in that school. One of the teachers made incriminating judgemental comments regarding my child, I wanted to sue the school . This was not just my experience. note the comment, the counselor works closely with my child....probably because they have severe problems! My child is doing great in college now 3.8 gpa
The school has the AP classes for motivated students but otherwise it seems that mediocrity rules the day. There is even an unhealthy atmosphere among the high achieving students in terms of competition. Bright students will pad their class schedule with easy classes to maintain a high GPA rather than challenge themselves. Too many parents are clueless as to what's going on with their own kids.
My Son attends this school. It is a wonderful school. Counselors work closely with the students and return your calls immediately. They have online access with updated grades daily, class assignments that are due and turned in are posted in the evening so no surprises. Good choice of electives as well to keep kids with a wide range of likes interested.
SLOHS doenst care about student needs they only care about how they look good and not the students. SLOHS needs to be a better school and care about the students and what they need not what the high school needs and how they look good not the students.
I hate that school they dont care about individual student needs. They dont care if u pass or fail and if ur doing good thats the only time they pay attention and aknowldege you.
I go to SLOHS, and I have to admit that it is an excellent environment for kids to be in. There are a lot of electives, sports, extracurricular activities, and more for students to be involved in. However, the teachers (however well intentioned) simply are not adequate to be teaching certain classes), and I feel wholly unprepared for AP and SAT II tests (despite the fact that I have excelled in those classes). For the hardworking, ambitious student, SLOHS is perhaps not the best place to be. For average students, however, I highly recommend it.
The teachers are very good. The courses are challenging. My daughter transferred in from a private school and she is not bored. There is plenty of support for highly motivated kids that want to excel and get into a good college.
My daughter, who is not always the easiest to work with, got patient, one on one instruction from caring, competent teachers. They gave and gave way more than they had to.
Excellent ED program. Professional and well equiped staff.
I am very happy with SLO High. When we transferred our 9th grade daughter here from another school that was experiencing major problems, the head of the math department met with her to decide where to place her. His recommendation - AP (where she normally should be). His comment to us 'We can rebuild her confidence'. Since then, our daughter has regained her confidence and is excelling once again.
