It's true, you never know how good you have it, until it's gone. Our daughter attended OMS from PII-3rd grade then we moved out of state. As we looked to find her the best school available in our new city we realized all that she had received from OMS. She was part of a loving community where every teacher and staff member knew her, not just the ones she'd been taught by. Academically she was amazingly far ahead of the students here. And while the teachers and administrtors of OMS made sure that she was well taught; they also made it their jobs to help her become a good citizen. It's such a wonderful school, filled with a dedicated and focused staff and families committed to providing the best for their chikldren. We're so pleased we had the opportunity to give her such a solid foundation for her education.
Too true that the classes are very large, and growing. Grading and administrative policies focus on what a kid does wrong, not right. Music and technology programs very empty, art not much fun. Jr. High staff better overall than grade school. Very nice families and kids at the school.
This is school is ok only. Large classes for a private school. Parents spend alot of time with community service. Electives is mandatory for religion class. Many other electives there. If your child needs tutoring, in any subject you end up spending more money on outside resources too. ok school
My children have attended OMS since preschool. It has been a wonderful experience for our family. Our children have been nurtured academically, socially, and spiritually. Now that they are in high school, we can see some of the fruit that was planted back in P1 and P2. For example, they started 'public speaking' at 4 years old and are old pros now. The preschool teachers also noticed possible signs of auditory processing difficulties and directed us to early intervention before it interrupted my sons academic progress. Auditory is now his preferred learning style. Anyway, we can't say enough good things about OMS.
The standards at Old Mission School are very high. My son attended 4+ years of Montessori preschool and a blue ribbon kindergarten program and OMS is on par academically with those 2 prior schools. However, OMS excels in teaching the students to take care of the world and each other via service projects. I have no doubt my child is getting the best possible education on many levels. I wouldn't think of sending him anywhere else.
Both of my daughters are recent graduates from Old Mission School (OMS) and now attend Mission College Prep (MCP). They both attended OMS from Pre-K through 8th grade. The education that they received at OMS has been invaluable. The critical thinking skills, introduced at an early age, have allowed them to excel academically. The community service curriculum has given them great heart. We could not be happier with our choice for their education especially since my oldest has just been accepted by her four college choices, 2 months ahead of the acceptance deadline. All of the colleges acknowledged her academic standing as well as her co-curricular activities.
My child has done very well at Old Mission School. Although the class size is larger than a typical elementary school (35 students, 1 teacher, 1 aide) her educational needs are being met. I agree with the current grading system in which an A is a true A. There is no grade inflation, at least in the younger grades.
My daughter has flourished while at Old Mission. The adminsitration, staff, and faculty all have the students best interest at heart. The curriculum meets California state standards. My daughter's first grade classroom has 1 teacher and 1 aide (who is a licensed teacher). Although the class size is 31, the teacher to students ratio is 1:15, which is smaller than public school classrooms. My daughter gets the attention and reninforcment she desires. I look forward to the opportunities my daughter will receive while attending Old Mission School.
