Our child spent one miserable year at this school. The academics would be acceptable however the teachers spend most of their time policing the large majority of the student body who behave like animals. There is an on campus police office. The list of police calls is long and ugly (you don't have to search very hard to find them) from gang fights, to drugs, to stabbings this school's population behaves as if they are intending an inner-city school. And these "students" have NO desire to learn and even less of a desire to be at school. If you live in the area and have purchased a home for the schools (elementary and middle), I feel sorry for you. If you options for private, consider them all. Middle school years are hard enough. Kids don't need the added distractions and fear factors to make it worse. The administration is so busy dealing with the gangs, weapons, etc. they have no time to focus on academics. I am very happy we were able to pull our child out when we did. Our other child will go no where near this excuse for a place of learning...
A sixth grader here at Borel I feel that the teachers are EXCELLENT! All my siblings have gone to Borel and all say the same thing about the teachers. I'm extremely happy here. The principal truly cares and goes from class to class seeing that all is good. The new music teacher is excellent the music program is challenging and fun. Borel is an I.B. school and I am extremely happy here. Borel is an AMAZING school.
The principal, John Cosmos, is an amazing leader and an amazing human being. He runs the school better than any principal I have ever met. When you come to him with any issue at all he listens and is very responsive. The teachers my child has this year are top notch. We are very happy. M. Aronoff
yay love dis school were not the smartest but were improving much better than last year (813) by the way iam a 7th grader at borel middle school!!!peace
I am a seventh grader at this Borel. I think the school is great for the developing middle schooler because of its diversity and supportive staff. The music program is phenomenal and the after-school activities are very popular. In terms of academics, I feel that students who are better learners need to be challenged more. I am in Algebra this year, but in sixth grade everyone was put into the same class and I felt like I was not learning to my full capacity. However, the teachers work hard to help each individual child. Overall, Borel is a wonderful school.
The principal rocks!!! He's inspires his team of teachers to give their best for the school and the kids. The result: a great school!!!
I am a seventh grader in this school and I have mixed feelings about it. The Band is great, with a great variety of songs, and challenging rthmic studies. The academics are a little different. Alot of the teachers are great, but in class alot of time is spent up when the teachers are constantly telling the students to be quiet or pay attention, as this can be a real problem. Alot of the teachers make the subjects sound as boring as possible and only teach out of the textbook. Our long term projects can get kind of old after doing the same project multiple times, and they are not nearly as interesting as the ones that I hear about from my friends at other schools. All the extra curricular activities are at other schools also, so I dont see what the real buzz would be about them.
The students, the principal and staff, the PTA... everyone is working hard to make it the best it can be.
The principal, the teachers, and the community are committed to making Borel the public school to send your kids too.
There is a lot of parent involvement, they have an excellent Principal and an excellent PTA Board.
