I'm not sure why so many of you are giving this school a bad rep. Is it simply because it's 80% hispanic? What's wrong with that I ask you? Yes, LL has lower test scores due to the fact that there are more spanish speaking children than english, therefore the test results are lower than other schools, HOWEVER - the school provides each child with the Curriculum you will find in other community schools. My oldest children went to a district that was considered the "best" in our area. They did not receive the personal attention that my 2 youngest children are receiving at LL. We recently made the decision to staying in San Miguel and purchased a home here, due to the fact, that we didn't want to take our children out from this school, we simply love it, and please, give this school a chance, the staff deals with issues in a timely manner and the principal and teachers are professional. This school has a great community feel, Lillian Larsen is the school for us!
We had to do an intra-district transfer for my daughters first year of school (kindergarten) due to the fact that Lillian L. had terrible test scores. The next year (1st grade) we were asked to attend L.L. by the schools superintendent. We were told that they would do anything to make our experience there one that would be beneficial to our daughter. They were excited to know that my wife and I love to volunteer our time and resources to help out the class and the teachers. When my wife tried to volunteer her services at L.L. she was asked not to help due to the teacher feeling intimidated. We just want our daughter to keep her focus in school. She is a daydreamer. We do not want the teacher to put a CD in a player to read a book. If you have a child that has English as their second language it would be a good school for you. The class is about 80% Hispanic or Latino. As per the recent test scores only 33% of those kids are proficient or better in English. Your kid will be going backwards about two years in education. For those parents out there that wants to say otherwise; visit any other school. Then spend a day in a L.L. classroom .that is if the teacher will let you.
this school gives the children as many oppurtunities that it is able to give and its not as hard to make good friends
First the good: This school has an outstanding variety of after school programs for kids. They can participate in karate, sign language, or several other activities. Now the bad: I found this school had poor communication with parents. Teachers generally didn't make an effort to engage and the administration weren't helpful.
This school is probably one of the worst school's ... it does not provide kids with what they need education wise. The majority of the teachers and the staff are not there for the children. The test scores of the children prove it. I took my child out of the school and put him in a private school
My son attended Lillian Larsen School for all three years of his Junior High. He enjoyed the small school setting and knew all his teachers very well. He entered high school and graduated with honors. He attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and is now teaching high school science. Great teachers, very committed to the children.
When my son was born we moved back to this community just becouse of its school. Living in another local community previously, I was not going to send my child to it's schools. He struggled through the first couple of years becouse I chose to enroll him early. With the help of the wonderful staff, he is now an A and B student. I feel he would never have gotten the attention he needed in other local schools. Being a mother that went from K-8 in this school myself, I know this the very best place for my child. I love the care each and every one of the staff have for all of their students.
I have three children who attend this school. It is a great campus with lots to offer every child. The teachers show real care and concern for every child's physical and educational growth. The principal is very intune and the asst. principal is always there. The front office staff are always helpful and cheerful. As far as the parents, they should be more involved and active in their child's enviroment. The staff is just completely superb!
This is the worst school to deal with no one know whats going on,the teachers tell you one thing and the principal tells you another, they treat the kids as if they are a problem, they are only there to get a paycheck and really dont care about anything else.
This is a wonderful K-8 school! The staff is great and the administration is very supportive and positive - my kids have learned so much more here than in their previous school! I haven't had a negative experience at all - I highly recommend Lillian Larsen School!
