Outstanding!! Great faculty, staff and parent involvement. The visual and performing arts are a major plus for this school, with most or all the teachers having some arts background. Add that to their outstanding academic achievement and you get a great school!
Great school with the best teachers and office staff! I've had 6 children go to South Shores and they all loved this school!
I am a parent of a 4th Grade student who has been at South Shores since 1st Grade. We feel so fortunate to have our daughter at this school because the level of teaching is very high and she has so many arts-related programs to compliment her academics. Here she is able to learn Greek dance, knit, sing, play the clarinet in the school band, and much more. South Shores has won many State and National honors, including the Golden Bell, awarded by the Dept. of Education in Washington. I know other South Shores graduates and this start in life has always been to their advantage.
I went to South Shores when I was little and graduated in like 2000 or 2001. I cant find any of my old year books :/ The school was awesome and I wish I could get in contact with people that graduated with me. You'd be about 20 going on 21 like me :)
Congratulations to South Shores National Blue ribbon School 2010-2011California Distinguished School, the only school in the district that received this award. The school has the right balance of academics and performing arts.Principal and teachers are very accessible and caring. My daughter is very happy and doing wonderful academically and creatively.
South Shores Magnet School for the Visual and Performing Arts is the BEST elementary school in the whole wide world!!!
Pros: South Shores provides a balanced education. Through incorporation of the arts into the curriculum, the students find school to be fun and stimulating. The teachers genuinely care about the students and teacher morale appears to be high. The principal is a strong, knowledgeable leader who is supportive of the needs of the students, teachers, and community. Cons: The school lacks any type of quality, structured after-school program to accommodate working parents. In addition, the school lacks funding, as LAUSD does not give them as much funding as other local schools due to their magnet status and high test scores. LAUSD channels money into improving those schools that are less successful, leaving a school like South Shores lacking the necessary financial support.
I am so happy my daughter goes here. She has blossomed as a child and grown as a performer and is doing wonderfully as a learner. She is in the 2nd grade and her reading is at 6th grade level! Great work, teachers and staff!!
I went to South Shores for 5 years and I loved it. The teachers were great. I loved all the performing we did. This is the best school I've been to!
No only do the children do regular studies, they enjoy the arts. This school makes learning fun, that is what school should be about. More children would stay in school if they could enjoy the arts as well.
The teachers are very dedicated to their students. The principal is very involved and friendly, very approachable. My son is happy and enjoys his academics and special art and performance events.
Wow! My son just started 1st grade here and only 2days into I can see a big difference between this school and Wilmington Park Elem. which I do love but wished there were smaller class sizes. Smaller community schools make a big difference!
My son has been going to South Shores for the last three years. He enjoys the staff and school and I see marked improvements in his accademics. He receives resources for speach and writing and has made great improvements. He enjoys the art and music and afterschool playground.
I used to go here and I loved this school. It was anawsome place to become a performer. Now I sing an a well known choir. please send your children here.
I give South Shores a big '5'. The teachers are fantastic. Mr. Sasuki, the principal is the best and his office staff is outstanding. Everyone at this school has a great attitude and is very supportive. The children enjoy participating in the terrific and colorful productions put on through the school year. They are happy and proud to attended South Shoresl Grandparent
What a fabulous experience we have had at South Shores! With the arts integrated into the curriculum students are excited about learning and their school...lots of school spirit, great values here!
South Shores is a shining example of what an elementary school should be. The principal, teachers and other staff members are professional, caring and enthusiastic. Children who attend here seem happy-a family feeling throughout the campus. They have a fabulous PTO who tirelessly fundraises and parents are welcomed and encouraged to help out in any way they can.Beautiful productions and art shows. I have two students attending and hope all of my children will be accepted into the magnet program.
This school is the best in the area. Beautiful location with a view of the Pacific Ocean. The principal treats the students with respect and honestly cares for each one of them. Parent participation is fantastic. All schools should intigrate the arts in learning.
This school is the best! The parents make it the best atmosphere for the children by being really involved. For a public school it runs almost like a private school because parents are encouraged to do many extra things. I couldn't ask for a better school for my children academically and artistically.
This is a beautiful school where children from all cultural backgrounds are valued and respected. In a time when most schools are abandoning the arts, it's wonderful to have a place where children can express themselves artisticly. There is no school better, public, or private around. In fact, many of the students at South Shores, including my own, left private school for South Shores and found it to be a much better choice. Love this school!
