Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

caring, resilient, imaginative, creative, they care about the students - body, mind, spirit - community involvement, making healthy choices - gifted teachers, support staff and counselors have a talent for this age group--could not be in this for the money...in view of budget cuts, FEMA disaster area and landing site of water bearing aircraft and refueling....location between SBHS and SBJunior High.....

The diversity of students and all the innovative ways the school addresses the different type of learners. They have added academies to give kids skills and direction before leaving high school. The counselors are helpful and available as our the teachers. The campus has good securtiy. There are opportunities to participate in the arts and drama and clubs. It is old Santa Barbara with historic buildings. This year the parents can access their childrens' attendance and test scores, so everyone is responsible and up to date. Ginny Kuhn

Santa Barbara High School is the best school because of the many programs and opportunities it offers. Both the Multimedia Arts and Design (MAD) Academy and Visual Arts and Design Academy (VADA) are offered to students. MAD Academy is for those that are interested in video production, graphic design, etc. VADA is an academy built for those with a passion for the visual arts. Within the academies, the arts are integrated into each of the core classes. Each of these programs accept a limited amount of students, and both are 3 years (Sophomore-Senior). With these programs, students have the opportunity for a more enriched education, since they are able to take classes with students who have the same interests. The academies create a meaningful bond between students. MAD and VADA are only few of the many opportunities SBHS offers. SBHS offers many Santa Barbara City College classes along with regular high school classes. Some courses allow for dual enrollment, where the student can get high school credits AND college credits at the same time. All credits are transferable, so it really helps in the long run when students are at college later. Last but not least, Santa Barbara High School is the best because we are home of the DONS! School spirit plays a major role at SBHS, and our students definitely carry the most. Santa Barbara High School is the best high school because 'Once a Don, always a Don A Don!'

Santa barbara high school is by far the most beautiful high school in California, not to mention the 2nd oldest. Our school has such a great and long tradition that has inspired other schools around us, but they have never achhieved exellence like us. We have TONS of ap classes not to mention 3 academys (MAD academy, VADA (visual arts and design academy) and green academy(it's all about preserving our world and awaring the public of our environmental situation). So many kids from our school go to Ivy leagues and we can boast so many famous and influential people in our world today. Sports, we are so good in such a ride range of sports and are nationally ranked in tennis and volleyball and the list goes on...it's not a contest, our school's the best.

The best and brightest student and teachers come together at this school to foster life-long talents and life-long pride for Santa Barbara High. We are incredibly diverse and also score incredibly high on standardized test scores because of our intense focus on elevating everyone, not just singling out the 'gifted' and giving up on everyone else. I will always be grateful for the preparation for life SBHS teachers, administrators and classmates instilled and shared during my high school years at SBHS. It was challenging academically and enriching personally due to the cohesive diversity. We aimed for the same goals and learned how to think while supporting each other. Perhaps something will be done re the dress code (the girls almost bare all and my husband and I feel we have no back up from the school administration when we question what our daughter goes out of here wearing. Also, we both feel the campus should be closed at lunch time. Parents do their best to watch over their children and their activities but the kids can do whatever they want and lunch time, and believe me, they do!
