INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

My kids started at Monticello in preschool (first one in 2005),and we are still there! I truly believe that the teachers, administrative staff, and principal want the absolute best for the students; they repeatedly go out of their way to help in whatever way is possible. When my youngest was diagnosed with a serious, chronic medical condition, the staff didn't skip a beat and incorporated the new issues into their routine. The negative reviewers are surprising--not every aspect of the school is always perfect for each of my children at all times, but when we have brought a concern to the staff, the situation was addressed and was handled appropriately. The school offers a wide variety of extra-curricular activities that often are missing in elementary/middle schools these days. Also, the after-school program is well-run with many additional options. I highly recommend Monticello Academy to parents interested in a caring, academically-challenging educational experience.

Great Principal, supportive teachers and individual attention to students. This school does require a lot of dedication and a commitment to excellence. Rules are pretty strict all around but staff is extremely caring and helps children improve in every way in a nurturing manner.

My daughter studied on this school. The biggest problem with this school is class teachers. I believe that some of class teacher's are not good. The teacher is not having enough experience to handle students and some teachers are not showing interest to speed up students. We have struggled with this school. I and my wife put lot of efforts to pick up my daughter. Really there was a lot of improvement in my daughter's performance. The parents must think twice to admit their kids into Monticello academy.

Simply put Monticello is the best! A fantastic school where both of my sons have blossom tremendously throughout the years. The academic programs combined with the well rounded approach to teaching children have put Monticello Academy in a league of their own. My children have experience kindergarten to the 3rd grade programs so far, and I have only praises to sing in regards to the teachers, the academic program, the after school care and the administration. When problems arise, the principal, the administrators and teachers are there to respond to the issue/need. They bring valuable feedback, provide guidance and get a solution in place. I have rarely met such a dedicated principal, administrators and teachers! Mrs. Trinh s (principal) leadership and ability to hire teachers have made Monticello the best choice for us and our children. I could not be more pleased than I am with our decision to have our children attend such an incredible school.

The overall bad attitude of the administration and general lack of accountability for bad supervision severely outweigh the few good teachers at this school. You can tell few teachers, preschool, elementary, and middle school genuinely care about the kids and parents. The teachers seem to be overworked and underpaid. The tuition is one of the highest in the area and they still expect and hound you to donate for every fundraiser and school function that comes along. The principal will be your best friend to your face and surely favor your children if you refer your friends or have multiple children there but don't ever get on her bad side....I have heard her talking and laughing about people with that snotty assistant of hers the second someone leaves. Overall, I would not recommend this place to anyone. Your money will be better spent somewhere that children will be shown love and respect not treated according to how well liked their parents are.

Overall, teachers at this school gave lots of favoritism to a few selected students whose parents were close to the principal. And, many of the teachers could not balance the core subjects evenly such as they would teach more of their stronger subjects and their weaker subjects less. The principal would allow the teachers to be absent for a week for their personal leisure, and what made it worst was that most of the substitutes were inexperienced and could not even carry on the course where the core subject teachers left off. Also, this school campus is too small to house pre-school, elementary and middle school together.

This is my daughter's second year at Monticello Academy and I couldn't be happier. This is the place where the principal and teachers know all the kid's names. Their commitment to the success of the students is second to none. The priority of the teachers as well as the staff is that each and every student reach their academic as well as their social/emotional potential. The goal of Monticello is that the students are successful in school and ultimately successful in life. We all feel as a part of a big family in this school. I highly recommend Monticello Academy to other potential parents.

I have moved my son from different private school to Monticello to 2nd grade because his prev school was disaster academically. He was really upset to leave the great place where you can do nothing except having fun so Monticello teacher had a bit of challenge. He is doing great there, accepted the fact it is much more homework and structure and I am just sorry I didn't know about this school before. It is very affordable for private school, great afterschool program, hot lunches included in tuition ect... I hope for next year we will have as great teacher as we have now.

My daughter attended Monticello Academy in fall 2009, during a very rough time for her and problems with school. We visited most K-8th private school around this area, and decided to go with Monticello school. Since attending this wonderful school, she has opened up to her teachers, and made a lot of new, close friends. The small school environment, with extremely friendly and dedicated teachers has made a very positive impact on her. The students in this school are very friendly, and make new students feel very welcome. Began to show a new interest in school and is a much happier child compared to previous school. The staff has been there for us as a family and all of her teachers show a true interest in her. On academic side, it is fairly rigorous, and they have a top notch computer curriculum. She does so much better with her SAT test last year than before. This school is a perfect fit for my daughter, and I'm a very happy parent !!!!

I agree that the low ratings assessed by some of the reviewers positively puzzle me. I have visited, and my daughter has attended many schools. Monticello is by far the best in terms of dedicated teachers and administrators, a rigorous and engaging curriculum, a terrific after-school program, top-notch computer technology and arts/music programs (what other school has computer classes 4 days a week where students actually learn how computers work, how to code, design....). This school is superlative in every way.

it is an awesome school. dont know why its gotten 3 stars only. you have to be here to feel the difference between Monticello and others. i have shopped a lot in the past 3 years for the right school for my son. he joined this one earlier this year in the Sunshine Room and has loved it to the core. we as parents have loved the carefully involved teachers, the ulta responsible management..challenging curriculum, regular fun and educative field trips, well coached co curricular activities.. you name it and they have it already in place....successfully accomplished!!

School too small and don't have resources for extra support , staff uncooperative and egoistic teachers. We have better choices at the same tuition fee.

My daughter is attending K in Montincello Academy. We are very happy with our selection. Not only we feel that the teacher quality and principal leadership is excellent, but also there is a lot of parents involvment. We like in particular the language and computer programs this school offers. The food is very diverse and prepared at school. Above all my daughter loves it! She wanted to be signed up for the afterschool program so she can stay at school longer . I would highly recommend this school.

This school is really wonderful. They have highly energetic and wonderfully phenomenal teachers, and very involved parents. I wasn't to sure simply by looking at the school or at its specific programs, but they have done an amazing job with my son. I definitely see the growth in what he has learned, and his accomplishments are in part because of the wonderful staff. The cons side for this school is that the parking lot is somewhat small, so it can be quite busy during pickup/drop off hours.

My son started 1st grade at this school last September. The school has an excellent academic curriculum, great teachers and a diverse group of children. The parents are involved and care about the children. The owner is committed to provide great quality education and support for the students, it seems. Will give more detail feedback at the end of the school year.

My family loves being a part of Monticello Academy. We all have had a very positive experience here. My two children are thriving, both academically and socially. The dedicated teachers and staff are amazing with the children and are very involved. My wife and I are both actively involved in the school and we have a real connection to this community. We have made life-long friends here. I would recommend Monticello Academy to any parent.

My child will be entering the 3rd grade at Monticello this Sept. We have been at the school since prschool. We love everything about it, especially the warm and freindly atmosphere. Every child is meant to feel special. Last year my son's class had two teachers. Both were extremely competent, approachable and always put their student's needs above all else. The same can be said for the administration who has always strived to make my son's school experience a very positive one. The curriculum is well balance with lots of extra curicular activities such as Tae Kwon Do. We are looking forward to another wonderful year.

My kid is attending this school and is in 2nd grade. We were really happy with the school so far. But unfortunately, i feel terrible this year. The teacher is really horrible. She doesn't have any clue about what she is doing. Even other parents are upset with the teacher. She is really rude with the kids. But, other grades appear to be fine. The management is good. Expect the fact that the principal have the tendency to convince us with her own point rather than solving the issue. Apart from this, the school is very clean. Staffs are really friendly. I will give 41/2 stars if were not rating for the current year. If i were to rate based on teacher's performance for this year, I don't think I would have even given two stars.

Our older son attended full-time preschool here for 3 years. The teachers (with one exception) were very good, but as with any school so much depends on the individual teachers and their relationship with your individual child -- some were better than others for us. They seem to have a good group here now and the turnover is low. The program has a good balance of play and learning, and lots of optional enrichment opportunities. We really appreciated the healthy snacks and lunch (included in the fee) -- a real plus for busy working parents.

Too much homework for young children! Especially for first grader. My child was so tired and unhappy. I had to transfered him to other school in the middle of the school year. We were within Monticello since preschool. It was a tough decision for us. But I am so glad that we did it.

Hello Dear Parents, My child attended kindergarten at Monticello. We picked this school because he attended their preschool and also centrally located. The teacher started the relationship on the wrong foot but it got better by time and improved drastically. I also heard good things about the other teachers and their afterschool teachers are great. I wish I could say the same thing for the management. The principal is far from being professional which translates to mismanagement of the school and prevented me getting involved more as parent. I personally don t care for their parent organization called MAPA.

My child is currently attending Monticello. The class rooms are spacious and the teachers are very nice. However, the management is terrible - unorganized, and clueless. I'm thinking of withdrawing my child, from this school, the earliest I can.

This is a wonderful school! My son loves it and I plan on sending my youngest next year. The teachers are outstanding. The quality of the program far surpass other private preschool we went to. The director has made time for us when it was needed and works very hard to make sure that each child's transition from classroom to classroom is as smooth as possible. My son will attend kindergarten here. They seem to have an excellent K-8 program, based on many parents that I talked to. Love this school!

Although I cannot speak for the K-8 program; we brought our preschooler here several months ago, and the difference in quality is leaps and bounds over the previous private daycare my child went to. We spent a great deal of time researching a variety of schools and programs and heard from several parents how wonderful Monticello is. We wholeheartedly agree!!! Unlike our other daycare, I feel like my child is much more than just another number or, even worse, blank check. The teachers are warm and caring, but maintain the 'authority' needed to have an organized and disciplined classroom. This can be a difficult balance to achieve, but they have certainly found it. Communication is done through so many different Medias email, posted outside the classroom, and on the computer check-in screen, as well as on our daily form. In addition, unlike other local day cares, I have found no language barrier with the teachers, which is a huge plus when you are trying to get a break down of how your child is participating within the classroom. Parental involvement is what you make of it just as with any school, so if you want to be involved, get involved!!! There are plenty of opportunities to do so. Unfortunately, the principal has been out recently due to personal issues, but her staff has been extremely attentive and well organized, and she comes into the school as soon as she can, and knew my child s name before they had even met (amazing, as our last principal it took over 8 months). Perhaps some of the negative reviews on this site are from people who have not seen or been a part of other programs firsthand to better understand what a great program this really is. I am looking forward to our family spending many years here.

I transferred my child to Monticello Academy from another private school a bit over a year ago, and she excels at this new school. The teachers are dedicated and passionate about teaching, in general. Academic curriculum is advance; computer technology class is very good. My child does well in this school, both emotionally and academically. I recommend this school.

We left another private school in Santa Clara to come to Monticello. Our 4th grade teacher here is terrific. My daughter is motivated to learn and gets a good amount of homework which she works on after school in the homework club. The principal and administration team are committed to the students and communicative. The fact that many have their own children enrolled in the school is a positive for me. Student performances are top notch and seem professional though they are created entirely by the staff and students. The computer technology program is terrific and lead by the same teacher who runs the martial arts program. Again, these teachers are dedicated to helping students learn and be motivated to learn. I love the school uniform policy as it avoids all issues related to fashion. Academics are rigorous and they teach 1/2 to 1 grade ahead in most subjects.

We withdrew our child from this program based on a variety of issues. From my perspective the leadership appeared more focused on having everybody wear the embroidered Monticello patch than on the individual needs of students. I would definitely NOT recommend this school to anybody under the current leadership.

My child attends Monticello Academy. The teachers are excellent and caring. There are many school activities, socials, and great field trips. The academics are balanced with elective classes. The principal definately has her heart in the right place. My child loves coming to school each day. I plan on enrolling my other child this coming year. I would highly recommend this school to any parent.

My child formerly attended Monticello Academy. The best thing about the school was its after school program. My daughter's teacher was sweet but lacked basic classroom management skills. The amount of homework assigned was ridiculous. The bizarre emphasis on awards ceremonies caused lasting psychological problems for my then kindergartener, and the principal is probably one of the most incompetent individuals I've ever had the misfortune to meet. Stay away.

Currently enrolled my child at this school. There is no parent involvement as it is non-sectarian. They do not need any hours put in by parents and my child's teacher is far O.K., but is not that calm. So far the school seems AOK. We are trying out this school. We hope our kid can learn a lot more. They made promises, so we are trying to see if there are results in a few months.

Both of kids went to Monticello Academy since pre-school through elementary, and we love it here. The staff and teachers are very warm, and they have great accelerated academic program, and is a very well rounded school. Parents/kids involvement is very high, and it feels like being a part of a big family.

My children are currently attending at Monticello, and I have to admit that I am very disappointed. This school truly does not have curriculum, and they teach to the test and as they go, not carrying for children needs but only for their results. Management, has no clue how to deal with this pressure cooker. I'm counting that days for the end of this nightmare.

Monticello Academy is a fantastic school. Our daughter has been there since she was almost 3 (now she's 5) and has learned to be very independent while learning great social skills. She goes to music, gymnastics and music classes every week. They have wonderful filed trips every month and a fun summer program. The teachers are all very kind and loving while encouraging the kids to play and learn everyday. They have a play-based learning philosophy with just the right amount of academics. The director is loving as well and she is very involved in each classroom. Everyone there seems to be very happy. They have a true love for children and they show that everyday. I can't say enough wonderful things about Monticello Academy.

The school needs to do more in teacher training to assure parental involvement and student centered classrooms rather than authoritarian teacher centered setting. I am sure there are good teachers at Monticello, but after our experience, I hesitate to put my child through another traumatic year and take a chance on another teacher. You come in thinking they teach the whole child and find out that is all academic and no fun.

Monticello Academy is a wonderful school that really looks at the whole child, not just academic. They offer a variety of activities for even the preschool children, including field trips, Spanish & Chinese classes, Tae Kwon Do, gymnastics, music, and cooking. They offer classes from 2 yrs old through 8th grade. The heart of the school is a complete library and computer lab. There are several dramatic and/or musical performances by the kids each year, even the little tikes. Holidays and special dress days allows kids to participate and express their creativity. Elementary and Middle School children wear uniforms. Lunch and snacks are included in the tuition as is the after-care for preschool. The administration is very responsive to parents' feedback. I feel like it's a 2nd home myself! I can't say enough about this school and have recommended it to all my friends with kids. It's the best!
