Yes, the 2012-13 school year was filled with ups and downs, an emotional roller coaster for many. I have to say though that as a parent of two children attending St. Clare, I wouldn't have them at any other school. There are so many positives... financially stable, the diversity of children and teachers, supportive and committed parents, teachers, staff and administrators., and of course, the silver box philosophy. And top this off with the addition of several outstanding new teachers and para-educators this year (and over the past few years) - we love it and cannot imagine our children being anywhere else! Yes, a few bumps in the road over the past few years, but I really believe we are heading in the right direction. I'm so thankful to have a place where my children are learning, they're in a safe and supportive environment, and our family feels part of a connected community.
We've been a member family of St. Clare for several years, but have made the difficult decision to move our kids to another school. We originally chose St. Clare based on the strength of its community of faculty and families. The overwhelmingly positive, welcoming nature was a clear differentiator in our selection. Unfortunately, the past several years have seen the community become fractured and divided. This is due to the principal of the school. She was a great educator, but has failed to lead the school effectively. The academic programs are suffering, especially in the middle school. The extra curricular science, athletic, and art offerings are woefully under supported by the administration. Concerned families attempted to partner with the principal to address the issues, but with no success. St. Clare used to be a wonderful place and will be again, but it will take a true leader to improve the academic, athletic, and artistic programs. St. Clare needs a committed communicator who takes the time to understand the concerns, diagnose the issues, and partner to fix. I look forward to seeing St. Clare return to glory. For the time being, I recommend looking into other schools.
St. Clare is one of the most diverse communities you will find and this has been a great blessing for our children. This is a very down-to-earth private school with a lot of involved parents and a core group of families that also is active at the parish. The leadership has gone through some changes resulting from tragedies and it is to her credit that the learning experience of the children is as good as ever. Teachers are committed to sound academics and Christian values. Our children love their school.
Well rounded school from academics, child care and diversity. Anti-bullying is ingrained thanks to their Silver Box program (use only kind words). With two working parents, we feel very secure of our child's safety and well being.
St. Clare School is a loving community that helps children learn what it means to be a good person in addition to teaching the other stuff (reading ,writing , mathematics, history, etc.).
We looked at many, many schools before selecting St. Clare School. The teachers are wonderful, talented and caring, the administration is outstanding, but the other St. Clare families are what make the school amazing! The school is diverse, academically challenging and a safe place to learn and grow. The school offers before and after care and often day care during spring and winter break. Summer camp is highly attended and includes camp fire nights and weekly field trips. We know our children are learning and developing in a supportive environment.
I moved my child here from another nearby Catholic School. The leadership is amazing at this school starting with the principal. The teachers are exceptional starting with Mrs. Rader. Each child is taught at his or her own level and needs without making them feel as if they are ill equipped to be with the other students. Love this school so much!
Saint Clare School is a gem. It is one of the oldest schools in California. It was built next to the Mission Santa Clara to help educate the children of the early settlers to the area. If you are looking for a school that incorporates an excellent reading & science programs with an active community of involved parents and good Catholic values you won't find a better school (we looked at over 5 other top private schools). The best advice we got was to look closely at the kids in Kindergarten and 8th grade (to see their inputs & outputs). The school has historical ties to the mission, Santa Clara University (the profs send their kids here and the college kids tutor at the school), Bellarmine and Notre Dame High School (both used to be next door). It is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and the Western Catholic Educational
