Bonny Doon Elementary School

I went to this school from 1960-65 and what made it GREAT was the husband/wife teachers (he was also the principal) Howard and Doris Hazeltine. He taught grades 1-3 and she taught grades 4-6. Everyone in first grade was reading within 2 weeks or so. And we learned about art and music. I don't know how the school is now, but back then it was wonderful. I could not have gotten a better education anywhere else, including pricey private schools.

We have 2 children at this school and it has been a complete disappointment. The standards are quite low and neither of my children are performing at their grade level. Now we home school as well as send them to Bonny Doon School so they will not be behind when entering Middle School. Additionally, many parents linger on the school grounds all day long which is a bit weird and unprofessional.

I am a parent of two children who are attending Bonny Doon School. This is superb little school with great teachers who give lots of personal attention to each child. It is nestled into a redwood forest, and the parents are very interactive with the teachers, principal and educational program. Back east, this quality could only be found in top private schools. My wife and I count ourselves very fortunate to have our kids in the Bonny Doon school district.

We loved being a part of this incredible school. Kids are taught to take care of each other from kindergarten on. The curriculum and teachers are outstanding. The after school program covers a broad range of experience. We attended the best summer school ever here--both enrichment and remediation support. We've not found other school like it.
