My stepdaughter went there, my nephew went there and many friends of mine's children went there - all with very good experiences. They really get the kids involved and the parents and other family members. Went to several parent/family things there that I really enjoyed. I think their curriculum and standard of care and teaching are excellent!
The entire staff has been extremely helpful and friendly to my son and i as he transitions into his first year of school! I have seen a complete improvement in my childs behavior at home.He is more focused and vocabulary has expanded in just this week. Also his penmanship is extremely improved as well! Thank you soo much, for being our school :)
DeLaveaga has inspiring teachers and a great school staff who really care about the kids; There is also a very active parent-teacher club which organizes events and raises funds to help pay for art, music, educational speakers, and other things not covered by the school budget.
I have two children at Delaveaga (both gifted), and am thrilled with the level of parent involvement and teacher quality. There's a new principal this year (2008-09), and she has a lot of challenges due to the large school size, but my children are learning and thriving.
This school offers a strong sense of community, motivated (and motivating) teachers, and great 'extras' such as music, a strong art program, chess club, a fabulous library, lots of clay work, running club, and an on-site after-care program. The downsides are a brand new principal and a full-to-bursting campus. Nevertheless, I'm glad to have my child at Delaveaga.
I think some of the teachers are great but a lot of them are burned out! The safety at the school is horrible! At lunch and recess their is a lot of bullying going on! Overall, I wouldn't send my child to that school if I had to do it all over again.
I think some of the teachers are great but a lot of them are burned out! I feel the safety needs to be better at the school and their is a lot of bullying going on at recess and lunch. The dual immersion program is overcrowding the school and they cater more to that program than the other classrooms!
Delaveaga has been a very good school for our children- wonderful teachers and a lot of parent support. It's a bit overcrowded, but we're working on facility improvements to accommodate the increased enrollment.
The teacher is great, the classrooms are great, the principal is great, the other parents are great - when we moved we made sure to stay in the district because of the school.
My child is in 2nd grade and has been in the Dual Immersion Program since Kinder. The program is incredibly successful. My child did not speak a word of Spanish when she entered and she is bilingual and biliterate in Spanish and English - at a 2nd grade level, of course. (Most of the day in Spanish at the beginning of the program was a bit daunting, but the loving, caring, smart Kinder teachers are amazing in supporting kids through the first few difficult months.)The program adds English incrementally each year until, by 5th grade, teaching is done 50%/50% English/Spanish. The Dual Immersion Program allows both English speakers and Spanish speakers to thrive educationally. There is an extremely committed and involved parent/teacher community in the program and a solid, active Parent Teacher Club for the school, in general. Extra music and arts programs are a great bonus.
