We love Good Shepherd! We have a child in Kindergarten and in 6th grade. Both children are doing great and love their school. My older daughter transferred from a public school and the academics have far surpassed the public school. There is so much parental involvement and a real sense of family/community. I look forward to many more years at Good Shepherd. Thought I should mention that we are not practicing Catholics and it really makes no difference. I think 30% of the school is not Catholic.
Love the students and teachers but feel really let down by the principal. Notice in all the reviews its only lower grade parents that have given positive feedback. No one over 1st grade...hello it goes all the way to 8th! Its too bad that his focus is only on new students and families and not those who have been at the school long before him.
We have a child in 1st grade and a child in Pre-Kindergarten at Good Shepherd. Our children have flourished at the school. The school has a welcoming community that has embraced us as parents as well as our children. It fosters a well-rounded education. Between the academic programs, extra-curricular activities, faith community and community outreach our children are becoming well-rounded, well-adjusted citizens of our community. The school is large enough that you get a broad diversity of cultures and experiences but small enough to get individual attention from the excellent teachers and administration. The Principal is very forward thinking and truly has an ear to the students and parents. The best interest of the school and the students is at the forefront of every decision he makes. We love Good Shepherd and more importantly so do our children.
Our kids love, love, love school and we can't say enough great things about Good Shepherd. My kindergartner started the school year resistant to learning letter names and sounds, but three months later and she's already reading books on her own. The kindergarten teacher is excellent and nicely balances strong academics with classroom fun. She is patient, organized, and loving and has made my kid excited about learning and unwilling to miss a day of school. Affordable academic and values-based education in a nurturing family environment with high parent involvement and dedicated staff. It's a no brainer!
we are a new family to good shepherd school this year and really enjoying the huge community parent support and high energy teachers. my children have merged nicely in to the classrooms and meeting many great students and their families.the school fosters a strong buddy program and it is wonderful to have the option to play school competitive sports in 5th grd too!
My grandsons are very happy at G. S. school, and my son and daughter-in-law like the family atmosphere and the quality of education the children are getting.
With Good Shepherd, my kindergartner has a wider family with whom to grow as a person. Clearly, I'm happy with the education -- not just the R's but aspects of science & nature, music, computers, physical & cultural activities, and religion (which I'll stretch and call philosophy, but that's just me). What trumps that is I see smiles, passion, vision, excitement, and humanity all over the school -- on staff, on volunteers, on parents, on kids of all ages. I look forward to (and see it already) growing up as a confident, aware, strong individual with a hearty sense of both self and community, not to mention the world at large, and I see him getting there thanks to Good Shepherd's staff and community.
I am a student at Good Shepherd and have been for seven years now. I am in seventh grade currently and am sincerely, absolutely loving it. Yes, seventh grade is hard, but there are more perks to it than hardships. For instance, in middle school/ juinor high, you get lockers and have a block schedule. I thought it was so exhilarating when I came into 6th grade because I was a 'big kid!' You have responsibilities and more priviledges and what totally shocked me was how much the little kids loved us and looked up to us like that. I have learned to juggle classes, homework, responsibilites, and my friends. Yes, it can be challenging, but Good Shepherd has prepared me and supported me (especially my teachers) for whatever the world throws at me. I wouldn't trade my school for anything else in the world: it's my home.
I moved my daughter to Good Shepherd because I was looking for a strong academic atmosphere combined with a caring, faith-based community. Good Shepherd offers all of this and more. My daughter could have easily slipped through the cracks of a larger school but, due to the excellent skills of the factulty and staff, she is flourishing. She has grown academically and personally into a well-rounded, well-grounded young woman who is well prepared for either a public or private high school. She has experienced nothing but positive and respectful student and faculty interactions and feels tremendously supported and cared for. Her future success has been well worth the investment.
Unfortunatly, bulling is a part of our children's world. My son has special needs and I gave a lot of thought and research in choosing his school. I choose Good Shepherd because I felt that if bulling happened here it would be addressed and not swept under the rug. My son has been a student here for 3 years now and is flurishing. Academically he is challenged, the teachers, principal and staff are always willing to make time to talk about any questions or concerns, and what I appreciate most is that my son is loved and respected by the whole student body, grades pre-school to 8th grade.
