I attended this school for a few years when the principal Mr. Torres was there. It was awesome! Honestly the best years of my life, but that was about 8-9 years ago. I don't know how it is run now. I always seem to remember: Teacher: "When I say Timber you say Wolves!" Teacher: "Timber!" Students: "Wolves!" <3(:
With all the horror stories of SMBSD, I was hesitant to enroll my child here for Kindergarten. I met with the asst principal and met the Kinder teachers before enrollment. The administrators and teachers I have been in contact with are involved and interested in the kids' education and social development. Parent involvement is low - perhaps because of language barriers; the same group is always involved in functions. We need more parent involvement to help make the school more successful, but individual parents can certainly help their own students and classrooms. I'm happy to be part of this school and hope the good experience continues through my child's years here.
Teachers and staff at Taylor school work hard to provide children with different and fun ways of learning.
Just overall awesome school
My son transferred to this school last year (first grade). Coming from Pacific Christian I was very concerned initially. However his teacher, Miss. Smith, was wonderful and handled him beautifully. He went in advanced from the private school but then began to have trouble. She kindly but firmly made him live up to her expectations and he finished the year as student of the month. I was fortunate enough to be 'Principal for a Day' with the new principal Mrs. Peterson. I was completely amazed at what she accomplishes. She is a dynamo CEO, CFO, & Marketing Dept, and friend to all of the children. The children at Taylor aretruly well looked after and loved. Mr. Smith is no less awesome. Please remember to involve yourself so your child can get the best education and experience. Lots of help needed this year especially.
My son has attended Taylor for about 1 1/2 years now. This past year, he has been in the GATE program that the afore-mentioned parent spoke of. I think the GATE program has really challenged my son in a positive, intellectual, creative way. I also love the ASES after school program and feel that it is keeping my child active in sports and with lots of scientific and creative activities to keep him interested. All in all, I am very pleased. This is surprising to me, since my son came from an 'upstanding' school in San Luis Obispo originally, transferred to Taylor and seems to have much more support. They also provide school lunches at no-charge to the parents, which is wonderful! Great school so far and the new principal has my stamp of approval for Spring 2009.
My daughter was one of the first kindergarten students at Taylor. She is in 6th grade now. I have absolutely no complaints about Taylor. The teachers are wonderful as is all the staff. They truly care about education. There is a new principal this year so I can only hope that she does as wonderful job as the last. Mr. Caffarcia took the time out to get to know his students. There were almost 1000 students before but that is different now. He knew many of the students names which you can't say about a lot of principals. He will be missed. The jury is still out on the new principal. School just started so it is too early to judge. I can only hope that she will also be wonderful.
Principal does not deal with hardcore discipline problems. Too many children at this school-almost a 1,000. No preschool. All the top students are in the GATE Program.20% of student population in that program?-unrealistic.
I believe theres to many kids per class.
My son has attended Taylor for 2 yrs now, transferring from the Orcutt school district. SMBSD has a GATE program for the kids, which is something the Orcutt school dist doesn't offer. Taylor tries very hard to meet the needs of all their students, and does a wonderful job, IMO. The Principal is always been combing the campus. At the last PTA meeting, 9 parents showed up. There isn't a lot of parent involvement, for whatever reason (job conflict, language barrier, etc.). There are 900 students in the school, so to have 9 parents show up was a little shocking. My son loves it there and I look forward to my daughter attending this year.
