We are a military family and had just got stationed here in Santa Maria coming from overseas. My first impression of Arellanes Junior High School was that it looked bad and scary. It was not located in a good neighborhood and I was really concerned for my child's safety. Regardless how I felt about the school, my son convinced me to give it a try. I was really glad that we did because it turned out to be a great school. They have great programs, great faculty, and the principal was awesome! Principal Patty Grady is very proactive, energetic, and she cares about the kids. The school really enforces the dress codes and zero tolerance for violence. As the story goes: 'Don't judge a book by its cover.'
