Tunnell School is great! There are some wonderful and caring teachers! They do have a few teachers who act like they really do not want to be there. As a parents, you have to seriously monitor what goes on in the classroom. Make it a point to talk with your child about their day.
My son has attended Tunnell since kindergarten and I feel the school is wonderful and the teachers are all awesome. He only had one problem with a teacher in second grade and he and the teacher were not a good match. We made a change and the school principal welcomed the change and he did great once he got the right teacher for him. Parents that send their kids to private schools in our areas...don't want to have to be involved in their kids education. At least at public schools, you know what is going on all the time and you are more dedicated to your childs learning.
There are a few teachers at this school that go above and beyond. I have been pleased with the majority of the teachers at Tunnell from Kindergarten on. Some go out of their way and give up personnal time for the students. My child has done fine and recently had his scores go up.
Since my daughter started at this school, her STAR test scores have dropped. The school safety at this school is ridiculous. Most of the teachers do not care about being involved with parents and students on a personal level.
Before my child started Kindergarten, I researched and compared a lot of private schools in the area. Most had curriculums that I was impressed with, but certain concerns arise. I realized that socially, private schools would not be the best idea. When my child took the kindergarten test at Tunnel they recommended that my child be in the Junior Primary program. For the first 3 years, I was thoroughly satisfied with the progress; however, things have changed. I don't feel the curriculums are tough enough, but I do understand that the District and its teachers have to follow California Standards. I just don't understand why certain schools in the area have so much success and not Tunnel. I am less than pleased at this point.
