Luther is awesome, I do not think there is a Head of School as articulate, passionate, sincere and with so much power behind his mission-- the New Roads mission.

The school teaches the students to respect ideas that are for the greater good, to question and challenge. This doesn't always create tame "respectful" students, but is does empower our youth to be bold in the way they approach the world.

Academic excellence goes beyond test scores. The parents and students at NRS are not pursuing a prolonged test preparation— we can go to Kaplan for that. We are looking for an experience that educates the individual in the classical sense of the word. The virtue of an education is not to prepare you to achieve within the limits of accepted standards but in it's ability to empower you to grow from your inside out towards your greatest potential. We believe in social justice. This underlying ethos is embodied in the very core of the institution at every level. Yes, the school walks the walk. Approximately half of the families at the school receive some aid. Privilege, if that is all you know, can disenfranchise you from an expansive life experience and learning the true value of compassion. We believe that the world benefits when people who have experienced less of it, experience more. Most other private schools talk about how many students they got into Harvard-- we have plenty students at the Ivy Leagues, but you won't hear about it every day. What you will hear is that we have the young Poet Laureate of Los Angeles and the only female in the 12 member young composers program at the LA Phil. We are proud of these types of achievements. Accolades that go beyond convention and celebrate the individual, a passion for a life that is full of vitality and profound and empathetic observations.

I am currently going to new roads in the 7th grade and it is amazing. The teachers are so compassionate and treat every kid as an individual. They take care of each of us as if we were there own child. It is a very excepting community no matter who or what you are. At time people can be judgmental But have I never seen anyone be bullied. The most important thing is that everyone knows everyone. Because we are a small school everyone knows everyone. Another amazing thing about new roads is how diverse we are. Weather its race or money new roads will do the best they can to make you feel financially comfortable and give your child the opportunity to learn about new cultures.

The school has such a positive environment and teaches kids and parents how to take out of them their unique human potential. It encourages students to face changes, become better persons. It is diverse, is creative and has academic excellence. My kids love the school and feel very happy going every day.

This is unlike any private school you will see in Los Angeles. The staff, faculty, students and parent body are down-to-earth and committed to seeing everyone succeed. The kids coming out of New Roads haven't been shielded from the world, they're exposed to the realities of our diverse community and the thrive. The graduates go on to some of the most prestigious universities in the world because New Roads is known for developing young people with more than just an SAT and GPA. It's truly a little known gem of a school...

Incredible teaching staff and administration. The school philosophy of teach to the child is practiced every day with emphasis on academics, the arts, social consciousness, community service and physical education. The school provides scholarships to over 50% of the student body and is one of the only private schools in LA that has true diversity. Its an amazing school and the students are taught to be original thinkers and lifelong learners. Very different than most of the private schools in LA, students are encouraged to respect and accept each other and cruelty to the weak is never tolerated.
