School Official Point of View

Posted February 2, 2010

Saint Anne School has a history of providing an affordable, quality education for working families. Our focus is on providing a program of academic excellence, and enriching it with programs in the arts and recreation. A recent study from Loyola Marymount University revealed that 98% of students who attend Catholic elementary schools graduate high school and attend four-year colleges, as compared to a public school high school drop out rate of over 50% in inner city schools. At a time when many public schools are forced to eliminate programs, due to the leadership and support of our fund-raising board, we are able to augment our programs, adding enrichment in the arts, technology and education. We have cutting-edge technology, with SMART Boards (interactive white boards) in every classroom, a school-wide instrumental music program where every child receives free weekly instrumental music instruction from professional musicians and music educators, hands-on primary and middle school science programs through P.S. Science and through collaboration with UCLA School of Engineering, art history instruction, and after school theater and dance programs. At only $3400 per year for 2010-2011, we are an incredible value. We encourage families looking for a quality education to come and see all that we have to offer.

Our son attended St. Anne School as an 8th grader. This was his first year at St. Anne and we could not have been happier with his experience and his improvements in academics. The teachers, staff and administration all take the time to get to know each child and their parents. The communication between the school and parents is seamless. Teachers always keep us up to date and informed on tests, assignments and grades, They assign challenging yet fun projects that really engage the students, My son always received the attention he needed. We highly recommend this school to everyone. It may be small but it provides everything your child needs to thrive academically!

Saint Anne School is the best gift that I can give my children. The education is very complete and challenging to my kids. They feel welcomed, cared for and they are always eager to find out what is the next activity the school has planned for them. The connection with parents, students and teachers is great and everyone participates with a sense of care for what is best for all. The kids enjoy the music program after school, the boys and girls club, the theatre productions, the sports, the art classes, game night, excercising as a group in the morning, and the new blended learning program has been awesome for them too. Both of my kids got Honor Roll and Principals Award and they are always striving to do more because they feel they can be anything they want to be in life if they are guided by God, their parents and great teachers.

My daughter transferred to St. Anne School and hasn't looked back once. She is having a FANTASTIC experience, both academically and socially. In just a matter of a month at St. Anne's, her ability to focus has become razor sharp (and noticeable to those outside school), which I attribute to how her teacher works with her in class. I also attribute the overall leadership to Michael Browning, the Principal. Mr. Browning is fair and truly cares about what is best for these children. He is incredibly busy but accessible if you must meet with him. He is the main reason why we chose St. Anne's. Everything Mr. Browning told me about St. Anne's several years ago is true. The children are taught to be polite, respectful and to model values that all of us want in our children. The introduction of the Blended Learning program proves to be a very exciting time for all children, no matter what level your child is at. How exciting that the teachers can individually tailor their lessons to meet your child's needs! With the fun Mission Marathon walking program before school to the weekly violin class, I'm grateful my daughter is at St. Anne's. I wish I could've gone to school here!!!

Saint Anne is a wonderful school dedicated to the highest level of education. Santa Anne is one of the most, if not thee most culturally diverse schools in the city, which my wife and I love. The new blended learning program is amazing. The principal is amazing. This school is amazing.

My son has always been a smart kid and I had no idea how much better he could get. He has greatly improved since he joined Saint Anne School 2 years ago. He enjoys different programs like Spanish and music among others. He loves his teachers and the new blended learning system that let's him work at his own pace. Iam so glad that we found a school that cares so much for the kids, small enough that the teachers are able yo give individualized attention and teach them all the important values of life. It's the most affordable private school for its caliber. Everyday is a great day at St Anne School

St. Anne School provides quality education at a very reasonable price. My daughter looks forward to going to school every day and enjoys learning. With the new Blended Learning program, she has developed a new confidence and pride in her school work and activities. In addition to the academic program, St. Anne provides after school care through the Santa Monica Boys and Girls Club which provides the opportunity to do homework and participate in different activities. I am very pleased with the education and care that St. Anne School offers. I personally feel that St. Anne offers a safe and healthy learning environment for its students. I encourage families to visit the school website and taking a tour of the school so that you can see for yourself.

this is our first year at Saint Anne's and they all have been amazing. My children all felt welcomed and never did they say they missed their old school. Teacher's are great, they all have been amazing. There is so much unity within the students, there really teach them to be responsible, not including getting the best education.

Saint Anne is a great Catholic. School! The teachers are awesome, they have invest money and time for the school to improve technology and this year they are just launching the Blended learning with laptops for every middle school student and desktops for the children from Kindergarten to 5th Grade. My son loves it! Also the after school care is wonderfull and is managed by Boys and Girls Club of Santa Monica which is awesome too! Go Vikings!

We are now in our first year at Saint Anne School and couldn't be happier. We transferred our second grader from a very expensive private school in Culver City (in fact, we had to bring up his reading skills to be on par with the incoming 2nd grade class). We were content with their program until we discovered Saint Anne School. For a fraction of the private school tuition we now receive a stronger academic program, the innovative Phaedras Blended Learning Program, FREE afterschool care by a dedicated staff from the Boys and Girls Club, a well-rounded music program and an amazing teaching staff. The administration is absolutely dedicated to the well-being and growth of these children...Catholics and non-Catholics alike. Our transition was an easy one and our child has been happy and excited everyday since his first day of school. I would strongly recommend touring this gem of a school.

Saint Anne School is very good school. When my kids became 5, we were seriously looking neighbor schools, public and private. After 5 months research, we found this school is the best for my kids because the principal and parents in this school are very friendly and really think about the students. The rule is rule and very serious with education is needed for my kids. Now they are grow up, they love school and I am very happy what they are learning from school every day.

As being fairly new to St.Annes, we absolutely found a diamond in the rough! What a rare find . The teachers, office personnel and families are so wonderful. I love their festival and all the activities they have for the kids. As a blended learning pilot school we're excited to see our son soar in 7th grade! Thank you for allowing us to apart of this wonderful school community.

Three of my daughters attended St. Anne's. The youngest attended from Kindergarten through 8th grade and then received a scholarship to an outstanding high school. The older two attended beginning in fifth and sixth grade. This is a school with excellent academics, small class size, a caring staff and a Catholic education. The tuition is amazingly low for the quality and they do have scholarships. I strongly encourage any parent to check it out.

Saint Anne School is the best kept secret in Santa Monica...but not for long! The faculty and staff put the children first and foremost. They are constantly looking for ways to add value and improve the student's experience. Saint Anne provides a high quality, Catholic education. Students at the school not only learn their lessons but they learn to be good people and to be kind to each other. The new blended learning curriculum for Fall 2013 promises to be exciting for the children and foster personal growth, each at their own pace. We love Saint Anne's!

Overrated. Saint Anne is not 5 stars school. It is a very affordable private school but, you get for what you pay.Unfortunately, with the time I find out that there are very bad situations in this school swept under the rug.I am aware that there is not perfect school, but been a Catholic school...I was expecting more. One of those bad situations is like any middle school, Saint Anne has bullying issues. The principal took care of it partially. He came very hard only with one student to make happy some parents. But with the rest of the bully students, he is very soft and flexible..... no disciplinary action at all for braking the school conduct code.I really felt he was an exceptional principal and fair with ALL the students. Soooooo disappointed!!!

I wrote earlier when my son first entered Saint Anne School in sixth grade. He is now preparing to graduate from 8th grade. He actually enjoyed junior high school. I didn't know this was possible. There is no bullying, no "mean kids". The teachers and staff model and expect kind, respectful behavior. It definitely rubs off on the student body. My son has been able to thrive at this small wonderful school and we could not be happier. Academically, he has exceeded our expectations with a strong grasp of algebra, advanced literature, grammar, writing, American History, understanding of ancient civilizations and multiple religions, a continued love for science... it is phenomenal. When we first came to Saint Anne, our son had applied to another private school which gave the ISEE test and he scored in the 10-20 percentile in nearly all subjects. Now, only three years later, he scored in the 80-90 percentile on the ISEE test and got admitted into his first choice for high school. We did not put him into any outside tutoring or prep classes; his only academic preparation was from Saint Anne. I cannot have imagined a more perfect experience for our son.

We found St. Anne School online, after we d already submitted applications to a list of other schools. We thought we were done looking, but in the spirit of leaving no stone unturned, we scheduled and took a principal-guided tour of SAS. When we left, we knew that SAS was the school for us. One full year later, we can honestly say that we made the right choice. We love that art and music (vocal and instrumental) are valued parts of the curriculum; that technology enhances rather than dominates the classroom experience; that religious education respects all faiths; that the teachers are energetic, happy, and accessible; that the big kids are kind to the little kids; that parents are such willing and active volunteers; that the front office is super-efficient; and that our principal works so hard to make sure that our teachers and students have the resources they need in the classrooms and on the playground - to succeed and grow in their respective roles. It s this environment of family and community, where everyone pulls together and for each other, that makes SAS kids happy to go to school and eager to put forth their best effort.

We transferred from another private school in the area. The academics at the school are unmatched and there are more programs and more parent involvement at this school than at our prior school. The teachers are fantastic, they are young, enthusiastic and energetic and can't wait to get to school to get to work. They aren't the older, burned out, just there to get a paycheck, type of teachers. The principal is the biggest draw. He has an amazing energy and the children all love him. He greets them every morning by name and welcomes them into the school. Religion isn't forced upon anyone here. We are now in our second year here and are recommending this school highly to all of our friends who have children in both private and public schools. Oh, and before I forget, it costs a fraction of what most private schools charge.

About these ratings

The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.

We currently do not have any test score information for this school. Unlike public schools, private schools are not always required to report data about their schools or not required to take the same tests as public schools. Many private schools take different standardized tests; however, that information is often made available only to families of enrolled students. We strive to acquire additional private school data whenever available.
