This is an average elementary school, with many good teachers and what appears to be a few bad apples. My child's learning seems to be primarily affected by what teacher he has. And some of the teachers seem to pushing up students who other teachers have let down. The grade level test performance results for Mark West Elementary seem to support this idea. Some teachers do not teach and the kids suffer. My child spent half a year with an ineffective teacher who taught almost nothing. This was corrected, resulting in double the effort to just make up for lost time.

This school turned my child away because he has a minor learning disability and was on an inter-district transfer. The school administrators decided that it was too costly and too much work to educate him. I was given very little notice of their denial prior to the end of the school year. This left me scrambling late in the year to find another school with openings. Then his teacher refused to write a letter to assist my son with enrollment at a charter school, citing her concern of legal ramifications. My child is now devastated that he has to leave his friends and sister behind and doesn't even know where he will be going next year. I don't recommend MWE unless you have a perfect child that will conform to all rules and will perform at a high level academically. Otherwise you may be in for a rude awakening one day when your child is abruptly and callously turned away.

The school is great k-2, the teachers our son have had are excellent and the classroom sizes small. The classrooms are a bit old but suffice and there is a new multi-purpose room which the kids love.

I have 2 children going to Mark West i can not say enough about this school the teachers are very creative in teaching the vast levels of need in each class. The Principal is alway present at all events, very like by the student body and parents.I chose to buy my home so that my children could attend this great school.

This school was an awesome experience for me! I had lots of fun with my teachers and doing all the activities. My 6th grade teacher was the best, by far! he was really into making the kids learn and was hilarious he was an awesome teacher in school and sports, both our teams won, the boys and girls! i love this school and was so sad to leave it, if your child goes to this school, i am almost positive that he/she will have a great time!

I am not thrilled with the leadership at this school, and I think big changes need to be made. The majority of Teacher's my son has had have been good, but not understanding of child that goes between two homes.

We loved Mark West Elementary for the two years our son was enrolled there. The teachers were creative and responsive to our son's learning disabilities too! We only left because we moved too far to ask for a out of district transfer.

Having had 2 children attend MW school, we can say with confidence that the teachers are prime, the environment conducive to children learning at their own pace, with programs in place for those who require accelerated studies, or those who may need tutoring to bring up their skill levels. Various extra-curricular activities/sports are offered, which help to teach discipline, and build confidence & self-esteem...all while having lots of FUN! The Principal is a hands-on woman, who adores the children, and often greets them at the beginning of the school day with her enthusiastic and much-welcomed hugs. The thing that probably stands out the most, is that the teachers and staff truly care about the students, and it shows in all that they do every day. We feel blessed that our girls were able to attend Mark West, which gave them an excellent start in their academic lives.

Mark West has been the elementary shool for all five of my children who happen to be in all different grades. I couln't k for beeter teachers. And Mark West is in a kid friendly neighborhood! I lovethis school and wouldn't recomend any thing better!
