Poor tech support, too many issues with K12 software. Do not use this school if your student has special education needs and is attending the high school program. School should not label itself as a full inclusion school as they are unable to consistently provide appropriate special education services. Ironically the vendors they use for educational support have more cohesive curriculum and fewer tech issues.

We've been learning at home with California Virtual Academy @ Sonoma for about four years now. The curriculum is fantastic, the teachers are fabulous. While I wish the API was as high as our neighborhood school, Sonoma Mountain Elementary, test scores are not everything just as learning in the home environment might be great for some and not for others. If you are considering teaching/learning at home, CAVA @ Sonoma should be at the top of your list of choices for that endeavor.

I have homeschooled in the past and was overwhelmed, but this program is the best homeschool program I have ever been involved with. I have a honors high school student who is very happy and thriving. It will require discipline, so it's not for everybody.

Fantastic home school! California Virtual Academy offers a well rounded, complete curriculum for home schoolers, as well as great teacher support for the home teaching parent, field trips and outings. If you want to home school your child, you must consider CAVA @ Sonoma! www.caliva.org

About the tests


In 2011-2012 California used the California Standards Tests (CSTs) to test students in English language arts in grades 2 through 11; math in grades 2 through 7; science in grades 5, 8 and 10; and history-social science in grades 8 and 11. Middle and high school students also took subject-specific CSTs in math and science, depending on the course in which they were enrolled. The CSTs are standards-based tests, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of California. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the tests.

The different student groups are identified by the California Department of Education; if there are fewer than 10 students in a particular group in a school, the state doesn't report data for that group.
