My husband went to Mountain View, along with his two siblings. Now, our first son is in second grade, and the two little ones are about to join him. It just made sense to secure a teaching position here, and we now we couldn't be happier!
This school serves many children with special needs. The principal is very involved, and fosters an attitude of cooperation & teamwork among the staff. Several parents consider the program specialist (for special-needs students)to be one of the best in the Distict. My son did not attend Mountain View, but received after-school services there. I have also observed some of the classes. I cannot comment about the curriculum, but something right is going on at this school. Some schools have tension in the air, but the opposite seems to be the case at this school. The office staff are relaxed, helpful, and friendly. I know several current and past employees of the school. Each of them is enthusiastic about the school and loved working there. The thing that has impressed me -- most of all -- was how openly and honestly the principal communicated with me.
This is the second generation in our family who have been students at Mountain View. Teachers who really care, a principal who is on top of issues and taking care of business and visually present everyday for the children are all makings for top education. I wish funding were such that more up to date equipment, ie. computers, etc, were available. This is not a problem isolated to Mountain View, this is for all California Schools. If you are looking for a school that stays on top of everything and is concerned with the education of your child in todays world, then Mountain View is it!
This school has been wonderful for my child. The Teachers have worked very well with me always keeping me informed as to my childs needs.
The quality of academic programs is fair in my opinion. The availabiliy of music, art, sports (P.E.)are not impressive. Much to my dismay, there is no music exposure and art is reduced to an occasional occurance. Sports or P.E. consists of recess playing. The level of parent involvement is pretty good as far as I can tell. However, the school was fairly unorganized this year in recruiting volunteers. Another concern of mine are the classroom sizes. My daughter will be intering 4th grade next year and the classroom sizes are up to 35-37 students. I imagine it's very difficult for students to get much individual attention. On the Positive, Mountain View staff, especially my daughters third grade teacher, have extended themselves in bringing my daughters (who has some academic challenges) education up-to-par. For that I am very greatful.
Very diverse in terms of student ability. Good teachers so far (K-2), caring staff and principal.
