I am very happy with the teachers at CRES. My only complaint is the location and facilities.
CRES is a great school. We have been very happy with the school and the teachers.
CRES gives the appearance of an excellent school, and has great parental involvment. However, the location and facilities are extremely poor, and the teachers are overrated. If your child needs extra attention and/or you are not in the PTA clicque, the school and its staff will not go out of their way for you.
Lots of parent involvement makes this school outstanding as well as long-term teachers...many extra curricular activites and PTA funds lots of stuff that other schools require parents to pay for.
For a small, rural school Cosumnes River Elementary has a wealth of opportunities and programs for students of all levels thanks to a highly supportive PTA, excellent and devoted teachers and a tight-knit, education-focused community. We have enjoyed 5 years as CRES parents and appreciate all of the hard work by staff and parents who are always their in huge numbers to support any effort. The academic program is rigorous, sometimes too 'test-focused' but many kids excel here where they might no elsewhere because of the individual attention and push toward achievement. While budget cuts have plagued the District and many programs have suffered in other schools, PTA and community business have stepped up with thousands of dollars in funding to keep the school strong and varied in its opportunities.
Parent involvement is tops at this school and it shows! Academice programs exceed the pace of most, with high 800 API...despite budget cuts, PTA has stepped up with more funds, lots of community support. Crowded, but new school for 2007.
The school's location is not safe and the facilities are dismal (majority of school is portables). The teachers and administration are top notch however and the school does a great job with community involvement. The biggest thing this school needs is a new location - a challenge that is being actively pursued by the surrounding community.
Both girls I have had in this school were honor students. A nice little school with a great learning environment.
I have been involved with CRES for over 10 years and have compared the school to many of the very best private schools in Sacramento. If you choose to live in the Sloughhouse/Rancho Murieta area there is no better school. The teachers and the school are very responsive to parent input. In response to the parent that felt there is a 'pecking order', I would love to see that brought to the attention of the Site Council or Principal as this is the first I have ever heard of this.
It appears that the school teaches to an accelerated mandated curriculum. The scope and content of the work is excellent, however with budget cuts the school removed early/late Math. The teachers are overburdened and do not accomodate the slower/advanced learning needs of it's particular students. My daughter is learning the abstracts of pre-algebra in 6th grade, her failing grades, and resulting loss in self-esteem were overlooked and have created a negative learning experience for my daughter. I had to have the School District intervene.
