my daughter attends this school and I am not impressed. she is in the honors/AP courses and, due to budget cuts, doesn't have that great of teachers. there are ALOT of fights (3 in one week; doctor visits required). some VERY good teachers, but many just punching the timecard. my daughter likes it, but at her age doesnt know better. no other options in our area, so looking to move. i think this school needs improvement. not impressed at all. the school has a parent volunteer form that you fill out, but noone from the school ever calls. when you call to follow up they are not very friendly. when you call/stop by the school to see if you're needed, they say they'l be in contact with you (not). awesome history program; but very good english teacher got laid off b/c no seniority and budget cuts. this is a school that most students should not attend. kids like principal cuz he's "cool" but has no clue what's going on. overall, not a good school (but we came from an awesome elementary school so i might have high expectations i.e i expect my kids to be educated at school)

There is and has been a lot of bullying in this school. I have contacted the principle but didn't get much help. I asked about there policy and he said that all he can do is try to stop it. I think they have weak policies and need to reach out to the students that have no or few friends. the ones standing alone at lunch not wait for the child to tell on the bullies, they are scared or fear retribution, still weak policies.

Sonora High is an amazing school...i post this message not as a parent, but as a student. SHS offers tons of wonderful and original classes. Such as its special needs class. Sonora is one of few schools in california that offers a special needs class right on the main campus. Sonora also offers a type of tradition, due to the small town that this large school is located in you recieve a sense of community and love. Most of the teachers at sonora were at one point a student or a resident of the community. Although this small town is well stuck in the 1950's it teaches your child a sense of values. At one point i was shopping and i saw some children cursing and using foal language, but they saw me and they continued. After they were done they came up to me and appologized for their behavior.

Sonora Union High School is an outstanding school with many opportunities for students and parents. Its student leadership class is one of the largest in the state and together with its student body, the two (lead by the amazing teacher Steve Southard) work to create and grand environment unique to this school. The school has various clubs, sports teams, and activities (such as a large band which comprises almost a 5th of the school s population) to meet almost any interests. However, like any other school it is up to the student and parents to utilize all of the school attributes in order to ensure a positive outcome for current and future students.

This is an average school. Although the teachers and academics are very acceptable, predjudious and hate tun rampant as the stereotypes battle it out. This is the same however at every other school. Very little (although some 'bloods') gang influence is in Sonora High. The athletic program is definately above average with a new field of very fine quality and many sports to be in. Also in existance are a number of clubs which you can belong t0 (snow riders, debate, anime, etc.) The food at Sonora High is good, however there are not many healthy options except the foods sold at the deli, such as custom made sandwhiches and fruit juice slushies. Different areas of the school tend to be divided into 'areas' for different types of people i.e. emos, goths, preppy's, jocks. The school is in good condition and has very strong spirit.
