Mount Gleason Middle School

I gave this school 'one star' because unless I chose at least one star I was not allowed to submit /express my opinion. Much like the atmosphere at this school over the past three years. Strong arm mentality. If you are unable to send your child anywhere else and are stuck for reasons beyond your control do not put the responsibility of staying safe - on your child - aka staying away from trouble - or to expect them to be in control of their education - when they are in attendance there. Better advice -- Parents must be prepared to NEVER speak or write anything to the teachers or administration regarding a "parental concern" for your childs education or safety . Parents must be prepared to counsel their child to look the other way when they see bullying and to go with the IN crowd . Be sure they do not need to use the restroom there.. Have $$ for tutoring for actual cst content test prep. Last, begin their training early to run a 7-8 minute mile upon demand or else after all is said and done in 8th grade you will be blindsided with realizing SRLA is so popular because an "F" in PE can cause havoc when submitting HSchool applications . Just some basic survivor suggestions.

Hi. For those who are concerned about sending their child to the right middle school I suggest you to send them to Mount Gleason MS. This school offers many hands on experinces and oppurtunitys. The school includes an enjoyable music and art class. Afterschool All-Stars is full of fun activites and educational help. Students Run L.A also know as SRLA is a incredible progam consisting of Mount Gleason MS students running and practicing to run the big L.A marathon. If you ever join SRLA you can easily get a scholarship to Standford , Yale, Harvard or any other universty you would wish your son or daughter to attend. The magnet classes are just great ! The teachers care about your education and only accept work that students put their most greatest effort into. The teachers try to teach in a very sytematically order and push you to your sucess. I suggest any parent to take their childern to this MS ~ if their childern are willing to go and educate themselves , if they ignore what goes on in the social society at school and stay away from trouble Mount Gleason Middle School is the right place to go for the many activities and lessons.

Hi, I'm a 7th grader attending MGMS. Mount Gleason is an absolute dump. The environment is dirty and unsettling. There's gum and graffiti everywhere. The graffiti is absolutely disgusting, depicting private parts or hate messages towards other students or teachers. The community is violent. Racism, foul language, fighting, insults toward students or teachers, drug use, or even sexual reference is seen or heard 24/7. Security is always being called in a classroom. 8th graders are administrating the attendance office most of the time because of a leadership program, resulting in messed up attendance records. Young adults should NOT be running the office. Some of the teachers lack strictness, and are letting the students run around and yell in the classroom. Learning is seldom, because the teachers are mostly showing nothing but videos in class, or talking about off topic things the whole time without assigning any work. I will not be attending 8th grade here. Please do not send your child here.

As community residents with 2 school age children we were lured to this campus when they recently opened a gifted program . After two years it is clear they are similar to a bait and switch. The teachers in 6th grade throw everything and the kitchen sink assignments at the children without much purpose behind them and at least one of the 7th grade teachers is coasting thru the year showing videos almost exclusively as a teaching method . Outside class assignments are non existent and my children are bored in class and sick of the sound of their teachers voices. They bring their ipods to listen to music in class and their notebooks are filled with ,mostly independent drawing done during the copious amount of "free time" daily. That's about it. They have learned to be lazy and disinterested in learning since attending this school. Neither of them are interested in reading, anything . Needless to say we wont be returning next year. Too bad for the entire community that this is what is offered to its growing children.

Mount Gleason? MGMS consists of violence, drugs, and rascist white gangs damaging and destroying Mount Gleason. School is troubled and filled with drugs and horrible teachers. MG does not even provide a sound enviorment of learning, try other magnets or middle schools such as Porter, Nobel, or Lawrence.

HI!!!! Iam a 6th grader here at mount gleason,and i LOVE this school.it has been 8weeks already,and it has been no trouble for me here.i love this school so much,it is a school paradise.altho.there are only 3 staff on the campus,and the campus is ENORMOUS.there is to much cussing,and the staffdont care.i saw a big group of kids cussing and a teacher walked by and di not do anything.at the student store,the adults THROW,the food you have purchased.but i love the school.the homework we bareley get,cause we do WAAAAAAAAY to much work in class,and we mostly do not do work on paper,we mostly do alot of art projects.i recocmend this school for students who have had hard times at elemantry,because this school has brilliant education,many good freinds,and many good things.MOUNT GLEASON IS A SCHOOL PARADISE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I AM EXCITED EVERY DAY TO GO TO SCHOOL,I HAVE SUCH A GREAT TIME THERE.

Hi i am a 7thgarder i love this school its the best the teachers r the best there they teach u anything u need help with n yes the staff there is strict but they have 2 cause its a school anyways i love this school there Excellent Teachers there the Principal is the best she is strong she dose everything she can 4 all the students there n if u need touring there is there n after school program that ur kid will luv well thats all i have 2 say best school ever Mount Gleason Rocks my socks

I'm a 9th grader who just got out of Mt. Gleason and I am so happy I went there. I've learned so much and I had the best and most helpful teachers. Sure it has its flaws but its worth it. I'm very sad to leave.

I was a 7th grade Math and Science teacher at Mt.Gleason 2009. (let go due to budget cuts) After reading the CST scores for the year...I have to say that I am so proud of my students who raised their percentage from 30% to 47% in Math. I am so honored to have been a part of that increase.

I am a 6th grader, going into 7th grade this year. I do not recomend this school to any parent who wants a well rounded kid. The overall enviorment of the school is terrible. You cannot go 20 mins without hearing foul language used by the students. Some of the teachers are good and can really relate to the students and put in extra time with them. I do not plan on staying all 3 years. Oh and I almost forgot, the teachers and staff members are not strict at all when it comes to the behavior of the students, and they are not able to controll the class.
