Our daughter, age 10, was performing adequately in public schools but was academically well below her potential. Also, we didn't like the direction of her social life. We took her out and homeschooled her for about half a year and then moved her over to SoC for 2 days a week. In the last year she has jumped 2 grades in math and is now reading/writing at mid-high school proficiency. Most important to us is that the students are very kind, it is okay to be smart, and all the kids older than 12 are in AP. There aren't any clicks or left out kids; I'm not even being pressured for a MySpace page. Many of the students are ESL and from the Middle East or Far East. I noticed that SoC is listed as Christian, but they also teach Buddhism and several of the students are Muslim and Hindu.

The School of Choice is very accepting of 'different' children. What they are lacking in is organization and discipline.

This school turned out to be very disorganized. They had an excellent History and English teacher and he left for reasons unknown to us, and the head of the school did not inform us that he was no longer teaching. There isn't a music and Art program like they claim. The only instructor there that is capable of teaching is the Middle and High school Mathematics instructor.

My son just started at the School of Choice after having a very poor experience with our local public school in Los Gatos. He was in special ed. and not making very much progress. In the regular classroom he could not keep up and kept falling more behind. After just a few months in the School of Choice, my son began doing pre-Algebra, which was several levels above what he was doing at the public school. But with the special attention he was receiving he was able to do it and he became so much more confident. The teacher student ratio is about 1:10. He also likes the ability to study subjects he is interested in and their PE program is a lot of fun. They have a wonderful art program as well.
