I have attended this school for the past three years now and I must say that it is an excellent school. The teachers are attentive and you can really form a bond with them like I have with some of my own teachers. They expect you to do your best and when they see your potential, they will press you until you are working to your full capacity. Overall, this school is great for academics. Highly Reccommend.
Very political place...positives: good principal, several electives offered. Negatives: the English dept, attitude of favoritism on the part of several teachers, too many teachers allow themselves to be distracted from their job by involvement in sports (as coaches). Suggest going to a private school...too bad there isn't one in the area.
My experience is very different than the parents who responded. The teachers are very concerned with each student and my kid got the grade he deserved. The principal is very concerned and interested and I would recommend this school to anyone.
I am currently on my third child going through Amador with one more to go. When my first one attended the attitude of the teaching staff was a joke. Since the current principal began there has been improvement and a number of good teachers have been hired. I do see problems in resource for students with learning issues, it doesn't prepare them for anything except low paying jobs - not college. With the upcoming cutbacks class size is again going to increase, which will put a heavy burden on all teachers - good and bad. Overall my kids have enjoyed the drama, art, history classes, plus playing competitive sports; so there are some good things going on there!
I posted a year ago, and want to give an update. My daughter did go back full time after independent study. Now I agree with one parent - teachers make mistakes on the grades or just don't realize that they are so important to the kids who want to go to college. My daughter got As and Bs on all her tests/papers, but still got a D on semester grade. It took a lot of dealing to get it corrected. A mistake like that by a teacher could completely ruin a kid's future!
I feel that AHS is generally a good school. I also feel that the teachers don't pay enough attention to grades, which especially affects the kids that want to go to a 4 year college. My child has had a couple teachers make mistakes on their grades and they didn't seem to care....
I have a student at AHS. I think that the counselors need to be more positive. I feel that the school in general is very good, however, many of the teachers are indifferent about the grades. They don't give the students enough warning about their grades and the kids that want to go to college, sometimes don't know how they are doing until they get their final grades.
It would be nice if school counselors or someone would contact parents once their child is a Junior. Just a touch basis to see if your child is on tract and answer questions parents may have. Amador is a great school, but more positive parent input would be nice.
Amador High School is a good school... for a public one. I would suggest a private High School personally though. Positives: Wonderful Fine Arts classes -A good amount of AP and ROP classes -The good teachers are GOOD teachers Negatives: -Horrible English department -Indifferent attitudes towards students' grade(mostly)
I am a senior currently enrolled at Amador Highschool. The conditions at Amador Highschool are currently poor. The brakes between classes are so short. The school as a whole is so impacted that not all students are able to get the classes that they need. One positive aspect of Amador Highschool are the AP and ROP courses which are offered. The teachers of these classes do a great job of not only teaching, but explaining the material, making the classes highly productive and often times fun. -Sept 2006
