The teachers are so wonderful. They never leave a child behind. My child doesn't want to come home after school because she has so much fun. So many Parents are involved in the classrooms which makes a difference for our community. We all look out for one another children and always work as a team along side the teachers. This school rewards the children for their hard work.
Finally, SCE has a new principal, so let's hope that there are a few changes in the way children are treated and recognized by the staff. I had a problem with the way the old principal favored some kids, while ignoring the accomplishments of others. I do have to say that the Amador schools should get a big applause for the programs it runs teaching acceptance of all kids of people. My kids were in other schools for part of elementary, and all they seemed to care about were test scores. This district teaches about whole life, not just academics and sports.
SCE is the best elementary in the county for academics. Unfortunatel, there are a couple of teachers at this school who should should not be teaching. If you avoid those, your children should get a good education. The GATE program is underdeveloped. There are far too many dual grade classes. Although the principal is fair and works well with the students, she is spread too thin between the two campuses that make up this school. The PTA/PTO is hard working and provides alot of the the extras for this school. That said, it's still the best elementary in the county.
Academic programs seem to rate quite a bit higher than other k-6 schools in area-this is based on comparisons i've made w/parents of children attending other schools. Of course, all public schools are lacking in the arts and this district is an extreme example of teaching being stretched way too far. Band is slow going as they only are able to meet alternating days for 30 minutes...Not too much time to get something accomplished. The gate program is administered at this site & my son was an active participant. Some activities were after school but this site had a designated 'gate' classroom on campus and his experience in that for 3-6 grades was wonderful! no sports offered at this site for k-6. The parental involvement @ sce elementary is extremely high and parents are to be commended!
