My children went to park oaks till 2010 when we then moved out of the area. In 2008 my son's first grade experience was awful, he had a teacher that did not know how to handle kids that didn't fit in with her idea of normal. She asked that I take my son to councelling, that he had ADD. I towed the line and took him to a councellor who said he didn't have anything of the sort. Since leaving the school, the new teacher recognized that he was bored in class and he is now a GATE student. The Park Oaks teacher phoned me frequently to let me know what awul thing he's done that day. 2nd grade at PArk Oaks brought a different teacher and different attitude and my son did a lot better. Made me wonder whether he was the one with the problem in the first place. Also my son would get picked up from the school by bus from a nearby afterschool care facility. There was no supervision at Park Oarks for the kids being picked up. One time, the bus was a little late and my son wandered off up the street to find it...he was only 6. The school said they could no longer afford to have a staff member supervise after school but didn't notify us.

This is an amazing school in which the teachers work tirelessly to inspire students and their families to succeed. Every student is looked at as an individual. The entire faculty and staf operate under a "whatever it takes" philosophy. Here's an example of their commitment http://www.vcstar.com/news/2011/jan/12/park-oaks-students-get-a-taste-of-college-life-269/
