ALS is a school with small class size, hometown feel, and academics that are on par with other schools in the area, and if that is what you are looking for, that is what ALS has. I agree with other reviewers that the teachers at ALS are wonderful, however that is not always the case, and while most teachers will work with you, there are a few there that will not, 4th grade in particular. As we all know everyone has their own experiences, and I only speak from mine. If you have a child that is at either end of the spectrum of learning (gifted or challenged), I believe ALS is not equipped to deal with either challenge. Mind you this is only my opinion and experience that I went through with my child. Not every problem can always be solved to the satisfaction of both parties, however when it comes to your child and education you need teachers and a school that are willing to work toward a common goal. This was not our experience.

I have taught at Ascension Lutheran School for 8 years. I am so proud to be a part of such a dedicated staff who goes above and beyond to help each child reach his/her potential. It is a joy to be a part of this community.

Our daughter has attended this school since she was three months old in the Infant Center at Ascension Lutheran Early Childhood Center. She is now about to complete Kindergarten and turn seven this summer. We are committed to our daughters christian education and this is where she belongs. The class sizes are small and every child is treated with love and respect. Parental involvement is always welcomed and encouraged. As a parent you can teach art, read books to the class, participate in the outdoor garden, and so many other things to help your child and the class grow. There are always after-school programs for the kids to participate in. If you need to drop off your child early, or pick up late, there is a very affordable program available on campus. We never worry about our child at this school. We also are church members, which brings it all together. There are many public and private schools in the Thousand Oaks area, but we chose this school. If you are considering a new beginning for your child's education, you owe it to them, and yourself, to stop by and take a look at what they have to offer at Ascension Lutheran School.

A wonderful school with a small town feel. Our kids love the teachers, principal and staff. We have a graduate of Ascension Lutheran school whom was well prepared to handle the challenges of high school. Our second child is a current student and is a happy, well rounded child that is being prepared for a successful future in high school.

We know we found the best school for our children. The atmosphere is so incredibly warm and loving, the class sizes are small, the teachers are AMAZING and so is the rest of the staff. Now my youngest is starting in the preschool in the 2's program and he is already loving going to play at school. My 3 older children love their school and they love their friends that they have made there. The teachers genuinely care so much, and are always looking out for their best interest. THE BEST!

Ascension is beyond amazing! .... I was looking for a new church home when I came by Ascension and there was no leaving. Three wonderful pastors and the congregation is very warm and inviting. When I had children and was looking for a preschool why I looked elsewhere is beyond me. Again Ascension Early Childhood Center couldn't have made me feel more secure and sure that I had found my babies the right preschool. I never had any intention of having my children attend a private Christian school, but as I experienced Ascension more and more there was no leaving. Everything about Ascension supersedes my expectations. The teachers, the curriculum, the families, everything we experience. We know in our hearts we made the right choice. So here we are, 8 years later, and I thank our lord for guiding me to Ascension Lutheran Church and School.....Truly Amazing!!!

We love this school so much - as a parent of an only child, I couldn't ask for a more nurturing, accepting, family-like atmosphere for her to grow up in. We started out at the preschool, and upon seeing the school program it was immediately apparent that not only was the standard of the academics exceptional, they offered something for students that was even more important to me: 'the love of learning' itself. Creative and critical thinking begins in Kindergarten and continues consistently through the grades - our daughter will be entering 5th grade next year, and I am once again impressed at the age-appropriate support that the school provides for organizational, academic, spiritual and social/emotional growth. The teachers work tirelessly to ensure the same level of support for all students. They are truly incredible, and unlike a lot of private schools, Ascension's teachers are all credentialed and highly competent. The school overall is WASC accredited, and you can clearly see how they strive for academic excellence. I cannot recommend this school highly enough, and I encourage parents to seriously consider Ascension for a phenomenal start to your child's education.

If there were 6 stars that's what I would vote. My daughter is learning so much more that reading, writing & arithmetic ! She is learning how to be a good citizen, loving friend and a leader! The Christian element is what we wanted of course. The Scholl is the safest and warmest atmosphere I could ever hope for! I have has kids in public, charter and now private. I truly feel the terms "good, better & BEST" are very accurate. ALS is THE BEST !

My son loves & adores this school!! He gets so much encouragement from the teachers, even with his learning disabilities he's made honor roll. The kids get to be kids here while learning from the best teachers & staff! They have great field trips, service projects, & are free to love the Lord :) I love that the sports programs don't include weekends so we can be free & the upper division homework club is a lifesaver! The cost is very hard for me,but my son is thriving so it's worth it. No regrets!!!

My Wife and I have two children that are currently attending and just promoted out to begin High School. The over all experience has been wonderful. The Teachers, and staff, bring the children up each day and push them to always try and do their personal best. My 9th Grader is more than ready to take on High School and continue in very advanced courses. Both my Children Test on a National Level at a minimum of two to three grades higher then what they currently are. At a Family Reunion a few years ago they were speaking to some of there cousins from different parts of the country and they were amazed, as the older children where studying the same subjects and using the same books that my 6th grader was and they were in 8th-9th and even higher grades. This School has a true commitment to Excellence!!!!

Ascension School has partnered with Apple and is integrating a new iPad curriculum with iBooks textbooks for super interactive learning! This is yet another example of how this hidden gem of a school continually strives to stay on the cutting edge of education!

My son attended Ascension for 9 years. . .he not only got an amazing education he was cherished for who he was and encouraged to thrive. No bullying is tolerated and each child is seen as an individual; respected, loved, and tended. He has become a wonderful young man thanks to ALS!

Our family absolutely loves Ascension! The teachers genuinely care about the students and create a positive learning environment based on respect for the educational process and also respect for one another. This school provides a safe and nurturing place for children to grow academically and allows them to become strong, self reliant individuals. My high schooler attended since Kindergarten and was well prepared for her next steps in Honors classes at a local private high school. My son currently attends Ascension and continues to be challenged as an honor student in the school's upper division. Wonderful education, wonderful experience, wonderful faculty...well worth the investment in my children's education.

I am the parent of two graduates of Ascension Lutheran School. They attended Ascension from preschool through the 8th grade. Both of my children were well prepared for high school due to the dedicated and caring staff, strong principal's leadership, and well balanced curriculum. There is a family environment at Ascension where younger students look up to and are mentored by the older students. Students at all levels have an opportunity to participate in service projects and all middle school students can participate in the sports programs. Ascension Lutheran is a great school and I highly recommend that you visit to see for yourself!

I absolutely love this school. I have three children that attend and attended Ascension Lutheran School. The teachers are warm and inviting and the school has a great community with all levels of grades. There are upper division students that are mentors to the lower division students. I love this aspect of the school that the older students are role models for the younger ones. The interaction between the classes are lovely to watch. The service projects give the students a great sense of community involvement. I love having my kids at this school with all the loving and caring staff.

Excellent preschool and K-8 school. I have two children there and my children have thrived in this school's caring environment. One of my children also attended the preschool and was very happy and successful due to the loving care and enriching programs. The academic standards are high and students are supported and guided by excellent teachers. My children have grown in their faith through chapel, religious studies, and service projects. I am always impressed by the outstanding character and leadership qualities that I see in the the children at ALS. The school is like a second extended family to my children.

My son went there for preschool, I have some mix feelings about ALS. He had a great time with two great teachers in his 2's class. The class ratio is 1:6, about right and every kids get enough attention and love. Things are different in 3's and 4's classes. Class structure changes everyday: M/W/F is one setting (3's/4's are separated), and T/Th is another (3's/4's are combined). A lot more kids: about 35 to 45 kids depending on the day. They have about 5 teachers/helpers. Each teachers seem to have different roles. Throughout the day, kids have to interact with different teachers. The tight bound between student/teacher is harder to establish. I can't get much feedback at the end of day. The teacher(s) watches him in the morning doesn't work in the afternoon. Indoor classroom space for 3's and 4's just too small, when all kids are indoor, it's loud, crowd, and overwhelming. If your kid is not the most outgoing or social kind, he/she will get lost in this setting. The preschool works hard to add science, outdoor activities, but they lost sight of the most important to the kids which is to create a loving, comfortable environment so that they feel confident, love come to school.

I went to Ascension for middle school, but only lasted 2 years. I was SEVERELY bullied there and the staff did nothing about it. I would NOT recommend that you send your children there. The classes are way too small and there is a lot of bulling that goes on. Take it from someone who went there, this is not a place you want to go. I regret going there more than anything, they make the school seem so amazing, but really its the worst decision I have ever made.

We love this school. After moving away we realized just how much. The teachers are truly caring and have the kids' best interests at heart. There are many extra programs that have been eliminated from the public school systems such as: music, regular P.E., an actual librarian, Spanish, and more. The only draw-back is that it may be too small for older kids. The kids may be a little sheltered if they are going to move on to a public high school. It could be a very hard transition. I actually think they need to raise tuition rates to make more improvements to the school. As it is, it's one of the least expensive private schools around.

I went to Ascension Lutheran for middle school. Its a public school with a religion class, minus the drug problem. Attrition rate was very high among new comers. Out of 6 kids who joined in 7th grade, only me another stayed, and I stayed not of my free will.

Great school with caring well educated teachers. Parents are very friendly, involved and down to earth. Various after school programs. Students have Spanish, music, P.E. and computers every week. Art is taught by volunteer parents through Art Trek every two weeks.

I am impressed! Even more after his first year than I was when I decided to enroll my son based on my research into the local private schools. All the children smile and are taught in a very loving, academic environment. This school nurtures fascinated minds and good character. A+ in my book. My kindergarten graduate is reader and writer of long sentences and had his science senses filled. He likes learning about his creator daily.
