Lincoln has been an amazing school for our daughter. She has had excellent teachers every year and loves the office staff who take good care of her! Congrats on becoming a California Distinguished school! We are sad to move away from here to another state and hope to find a school as great as Lincoln!
is one of the best elemetary school in Torrance I love the teachers & staff very helpful & friendly
My daughter attended Kindergarten w/ Mrs. Konishi and Ms. Houske sch yr 2008-2009. She had such a great time, she enjoyed both teachers. I was concerned since they both worked part time, that it would create some type of confusion having two different teachers. but she did )really well and they (Teachers) were very dedicated and gave the class their all.
My son attended the Preppy K program (although this was not his home school) and I was very impressed. The Preppy program run by Mrs. King is absolutely excellent!
I am very pleased with Lincoln Elementary. The teachers, teacher's assistants, playground assistants and principal are all very involved and diligent in their interest in the school and students. The 'Preppy Kindergarten' curriculum is excellent.
While the academic programs are rigorous and result in high test scores, they are very focused on test preparation and rote learning (such as memorization), versus creative assignments that involve more critical thinking and collaboration. Some instructors do incorporate interesting assignments and are caring and supportive. However, students complete volumes of work sheets per week and have very little opportunity for creative work. They are told what to do specifically, learning to follow directions but not to become active critical thinkers. They can test well, but testing doesn't encourage their ability to think, express, or create. Very little art and music are incorporated into the curricullum. The music teacher was laid off last year. Parent volunteers bring the only art instruction to the school, and it is mostly crafts, not art. Class size in the upper grades is high (around 30). Bullying occurs without much intervention from school officials.
The teachers at Lincoln Elementary care about their students, academically and socially. The kids have fun with the 'no citation' days, like Bubble Day, Hat Day, etc. Our child loves to participate in the school's International Day performance in the springtime. There is an adequate amount of parents involved with the school. We personally have not been displeased [with the principal]. There is probably room for improvement. But overall, we are happy with Lincoln Elementary.
Our five years son was in a Preepy Plus class with Mrs. King and it was fantastic. Mrs. King and her assitant and the school principal Ms. Smith are wonderful. Highly recommend this shchool.
