My husband and I are disappointed in T E. Those who state this school is diverse obviously have not been exposed to diversity. We recently moved to Truckee from the Bay Area. My child was exposed to diversity in the bay. There are only two ethnic groups that attend TE. Having caucasians and hispanics together in one school does not make this school diverse! Unfortunately, staff and the school district have lost focus on why they originally became involved in Education. Staff are so concerned with how their test scores look they have lost the deeper reason of why they. Scams a teacher. Our sons teacher ( who shall not be named ) claims our son is way behind as he came from Bay Area schools. If there are children who are struggling in school, then the teacher needs to step up and do their job. We work with our son at home but the positive feedback from the teacher - this is critical for a childs self esteem. We have noticed our sons attitude is much different then before. He gets very upset when he doesn't understand the work he needs to complete and he seems depressed when having to go to school. We have decided to move out of the district to avoid Truckee schools all together.
We moved away to get out of this school district. This school is not diverse. There are really only two ethnic groups represented and they very rarely mix. My children had very few "ethnic" friends. Not because they didn't seek friendship with these children, but because there is a huge unspoken division amongst these two groups. The school spends a lot of time and money focusing on raising their terrible test scores, but very little on supporting advanced education. Shameful. Now that I see what a good public education can be, I truly feel sorry for all those kids. My children are receiving a better education because of our move.
I agree, too much tolorance for children with bad behavior. If I would have known what I know now, I would have chosen a different school for my children to attend.
This school is what Truckee is all about, it's diverse population represents Truckee as a town. If you moved here for the experience of living away from the big city you will find it here. I have been in town 26 years, my children attended TE and they both went to great Universities. The quality of education here is top notch!! The staff is up on all the latest research that promotes learning for every student. This population at this school is not hand picked, it is real world. Your child will learn what it means to get along with everyone, not just those in his/her own economic group. Cheers to all the staff and the awesome principal!
Definitely the heart and soul of Truckee. For those who can't handle integration, charter and private schools are an alternative.
Another plus to Truckee Elementary is the programs they do as a class...how many other schools have ski lessons and swim lessons as part of their class activities?
In my opinion, best elementary school choice in TTUSD. Yes, there is a huge achievement gap, but the problem does not originate with the school. Truckee Elementary consistently proves its effectiveness with the groups that are succeeding - check the test scores by demographics. If the achievement gap were to be the school's fault, all groups would fall short. The problem at the school is purely socio-economics, which is personal and sensitive, but not racist. The school has a dedicated, excellent teaching staff. Before- and after-school enrichment and music programs challenge those acedemically advanced. I don't understand the flight from this school. Donner Trail is overrated with resources hyper-extended and stressed; Glenshire does not offer the social diversity. The Principal leadership at Truckee needs to be stronger, otherwise I would have given the school five stars.
Amazing school. My son is in first grade and has had two great years at Truckee Elementary. The teachers are all very different in their teaching styles but very gifted and all have something unique to offer. A couple should consider retirement, but every school has that. I am very involved in my sons class of 21 students and over half of the parents volunteer their time. Our new principal is a humble leader. And our diverse demographic is positive addition to my child's education both socially and intellectually. Come check it out for yourself
the teachers don't 'get' these kids; there is very little personalized attention and the kids at either end of the spectrum are ignored. Sad for such a little school district!
I am the parent of a Kindergarten student at TE. I have been very impressed with the teacher's ability to meet the needs of all the students. This school has a diverse population in comparison to the other Truckee school and I see this as a great plus for the students as they learn about the world around them. The children learn a great deal of compassion towards all. The new principal is a positive addition to the school. I encourage all Truckee residents to visit the school first hand before forming your opinion.
