I love Summerville! They have a friendly and supportive staff. It's a nice small school so basically everybody is good friends and we all get along pretty well. I would not even consider going to a different school. My teachers actually care and talk to me about my grades. I would recommend anybody to this school! It's a great school for academics and extracurricular activities :)
My sophomore loves the school-a very supportive environment w/ lots of parent/teacher involvement. The teachers spend an amazing amount of their own time overseeing clubs. For example, last week, my daughter went on a camping trip w/ Science teacher Robert Hohn on the other side of the pass and went for a 7hr hike. Tomorrow she has an ecology trip to clean up a campsite. They always ask for volunteers, in&out of the classroom. If you let teachers know you're interested in being involved, they'll find you a job! That's great b/c then you get to know your kid's schoolmates. Kathy Horak, teacher&FBLA leader, spends hours (and weekends) going to conventions where kids compete in written/oral tests re: business acumen. The staff always seems to know where/what your kid is doing, which is AMAZING! everyone knows everyone, small town feel. Several seniors last year accepted to many UCs, including Berkeley, Davis!!
I just graduated this year and I have been accepted to numerous colleges. I moved to Tuolumne just before high school and compared to the school I was planning on attending Summerville was a blessing. The school spirit is amazing and the staff is very involved. Sports do great and academics are high. I could not have asked for a better high school.
All three of my kids have gone to Summerville. The school has provided a really good education for my very diverse children. The oldest was accepted into a UC school, the second into a state school and all were and are being provided with the tools that they need to grow academically. All levels of education are available at Summerville. In addition, there are activities to keep 'less motivated' students interested like the music program, auto activities, and sports. Whenever I have needed help or support from teachers, staff or the administration, it has been there for us. My kids have everything they need at Summerville - challenging studies, support and encouragement for going to college and the advantage that every teacher knows them very well. When a behavior problem came up, I knew about it right away. This school has our full support and thanks. - Parents of 3
The small scale of this high school helps make it a supportive invironment for all students.
This school is incredibly bad! Teacher morale is low and professional commitment in the classroom is waning because the administration cares more about having so many administrators (and their support staffs) than they are in spending taxpayers money for the benefit of the students and the teachers who are in direct contact with them. For the sake of your children's future, at all costs, avoid sending your students to this school! It is a tragic comment on public education.
