Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

Compassionate, caring, committed to excellence in education and dedicated to partnering with parents to raise Christian young men and women with strong character are but a few ways we would describe the efforts of the faculty, staff and administration at RHLS. Having children who have attended here for 6 years has allowed us to watch them each grow spiritually, academically and socially under the guidance of teachers who desire to really know each child and his or her unique abilities. Other blessings have come from the wide variety of elective courses, enrichment classes and extra-curricular activities & sports offered here along with a warm "family" feeling and a strong Parent-Teacher-Fellowship. Teachers go above and beyond to be creative in the classroom and challenge students to learn in ways that best meet their individual needs. Our experience with the pastor and administration has been positive & encouraging with an openness to feedback. There is a genuine concern for the well-being of our children and our family. As a result, our children are thriving and have a love for the Lord and a love for learning. We couldn't think of a better combination!

We will be starting our fifth year here and I have been so pleased. I love the bible based teaching and really feel that my daughter is right on par with her learning. I also feel that the teachers and office staff really do care for my child. I would highly recommend this school.

I have been impressed with the entire school experience that my daughter had at her 8+ years at Red Hill Lutheran. She was very well prepared as she entered high school last year and has excelled in honors level classes. The loving and caring environment during her time attending Red Hill was wonderful. She was also involved with the sports programs at Red Hill which are a wonderful way for a child to be involved in all kinds of sports.

Red Hill Lutheran School has been an excellent fit for our children. And, our kids have all received a great education, even though each one is so different. This school is able to challenge the students who already excel AND help the students who are struggling (we have both). This is a gift to parents, since at many schools, the entire class is taught to the lowest common denominator. Our experience is that the teachers and administration are very communicative and respond fairly and in a Christ-centered manner. We would highly recommend this school.

Red Hill Lutheran has been an excellent fit for my two Middle- School aged children. We have loved the smaller class sizes, excellence in academics, and Christian Character development. I am also very impressed with the teachers attention to detail, specific class instruction and timely returned e-mails. I feel my children have been very Blessed with Red Hill Lutheran and it's loving and nurturing environment. My oldest child initially had a hard time with the fast paced I-Pad instruction. This is one area we have had to put in some extra time. It has turned around though this year with many benefits. I look forward to this up-coming year and continued growth, both as developing children academically, spiritually and socially!

Being a part of Red Hill Lutheran has been a very positive experience for our family. We had children attend preschool-8 . Our family has the utmost respect for the Principal and Pastor. In our experience with them, they have always been professional, attentive, and approachable. We had every question answered in a timely Christian manner. Although there had been changes in teachers through the years our children attended, the changes have had a positive effect on them, The changes seemed to make improvements of the overall program. The fact that this is a Lutheran School, adds bonus points for our family. The Statement of Faith Red Hill ascribes to is the core belief of our Christianity, and our children were educated in all classes from a biblical worldview. If you are a parent of a child(ren) preschool-8 and considering enrolling at Red Hill, I would highly recommend it. No school is perfect, but, this school seems to not be afraid to make changes for improvement.

My son has been at RHLS for two years and will be starting his third this Fall. We have been very happy with his social as well as his academic progress. He has moved from being an average student to scoring well above average on standardized tests and last year he even made it onto the honor roll. This is due to the hard work and dedication of the teachers and staff at RHLS. He is becoming a happy, self-sufficient learner through their guidance.

We have attended this school for the last 5 years. Overall we have had a positive experience at RHLS. The small class sizes, teachers and school environment is why we have chosen to return each year. During this summer we have learned of many wonderful teachers that are not returning in the fall. A few of them have been with the school for years. Our biggest concern is with the administration and their decision making skills. It appears that there is not any accountability process regarding the administration. The board of directors does not seem to take any action regarding concerns that have expressed several times.

For the Irvine parent who switched their kid over here. I do not know why. Enrollment has started to go down and Irvine district has great schools, teachers and principals. I am glad I switched my kids to the Irvine District. They did receive a good solid Christian background at RedHill but Irvine teaches a whole lot more to help them through real life.

My son is thriving in kindergarten at Red Hill Lutheran School. He is benefiting from a faculty that demonstrates and teaches what it means to be a Christian. As an active 5 year old, my son struggled with self control at the beginning of the year. His teacher handled the situation with positive, open communication and we worked together to encourage appropriate classroom behavior. His teacher continues to effectively communicate what is happening in the classroom and responds quickly to any questions. The K-5 classes recently performed the songs from each branch of the US armed forces and a song called "Love in Any Language" at a recent Grandparents/VIP event. I volunteer in the classroom each week and witness the compassion and patience of the teachers. My son started the school year struggling to hold a pencil, he now writes 3-5 complete sentences and enjoys drawing. He loves the music and performing arts programs and has also shown dramatic improvement in his math and reading skills. Although I live in the (awesome) Tustin Unified School District, I believe receiving a solid education in a Christian environment is priceless.

Family. Fellowship. Friends. Red Hill Lutheran School is home. It's a blessing Heritage Elementary is not open to our community, Columbus Grove. K-5 may one day be accessible, but the value of private education is intangible. I am indebted to the personalized, hands-on, transparent leadership of the gifted staff who prioritize education , values, and so much more.

We absolutely LOVE this school. Our two oldest kids go to RHLS preschool 2 days/week. We love this school for a million reasons, but a few include: * the admissions process led by Lori Browne is impeccable, familial, clear, and streamlined. * the teachers are remarkable - totally kid people but great with parents. * the communication is thorough - we hear from each kids' classroom every week with newsletters, updates, and needs. * the school's leadership is humble, capable, friendly, warm, and loving. * the classrooms and school property are clean, well kept, safe, and current. * the parent involvement is requested, required and important. We seriously couldn't love RHLS more. We hope our kids will be there for a long time.

We switched from Irvine Public School to RHLS 3 years ago when my daughter was entering 2nd grade. We love the school! The small class size really gives the teachers the opportunity and space to TEACH and mentor our kids. They don't spend the day just trying to get trough the curriculum. They get to know my daughter really well and teach to her learning style. I value their comprehensive education that includes Spanish, Music, Performing Arts, PE AND Math, Science, and English for all grades. We love the environment! I feel welcomed by the staff every time I come on campus, they treat my daughter well and help her when she needs it, and they involve me in her education. The other parents are very welcoming which is so great! We've made some great friendships with the other parents and each year look forward to meeting the new families. If you're looking for a great private school I recommend RHLS!!!

I had my children attend the school for awhile since years ago the public school had its budgeting issues. Last two years we were at RedHill, it went down hill. Some of the new teachers hired were terrible and the principal does not attend to anything asked. She still has not returned a message left last year, whereas before I went to the public school, the principal was wonderful returning my messages. Public school has received the budget and they have offered now things they had to cut plus the academics are amazing. Everyone talks about large class sizes. Yes but I have been blessed with a wonderful teacher in the public school even though she has 31 students, she has taken time to know all her students and my daughter loves her.

Our granddaughter has attended RHLS preschool-3rd grade. She is so happy (everyone knows everyone, the staff & older students watch out for & talk with the younger kids--it's the most friendly & caring school I've seen). She will remain through the 8th grade because they focus on obedience, respect for adults/others, caring, do your best, etc. giving her a solid foundation for high school and the rest of her life. My husband, a policeman, says doing a program for students at this school is a pleasure where they listen and are respectful. The academics are amazing; I can't believe how well she reads/writes, is doing complex math problems (in 3rd grade!) & loves science. The music/performing arts classes/productions gave her a love of music & she loves to create skits/plays. "Meet the Masters" introduces them to artists like Picasso & Monet. She safely searches the Internet & uses Power Point and other computer programs thanks to the computer lab. She's learning Spanish. Classrooms are technologically advanced. They have several inter-school sports programs, cheerleading, etc. Field trips & school vegetable garden reinforce what they are learning. Security is very good.

Eight Years at Red Hill Lutheran and still loving it! We have other options - yet, we chose Red Hill Lutheran and have never been sorry. My two children have grown wonderfully both spiritually and academically. Every teacher at the school knows them, the campus is small but mighty. Small student-teacher ratios and small group activities, yet, one of first local schools to implement ipod and ipad technology with Promethean Boards and Mac TV's. The small size has allowed my children to compete in Basketball, Volleyball, Flag Football, Track, Cheer, Writing Contest, Speech Meets, Technology Fairs and to be part of the Associated Student Body in Middle School. Through this participating my children have become leaders on campus and off-campus. The teachers truly care for the students ... a witness of this is the number of graduates that are now in high school that frequently stop by to say "hi" to their teachers. Teachers have built relationships with my children that will never be forgotten - they are changing my children for the better and preparing them for life.

I am newer to the staff at Red Hill Lutheran school, and I have to say that I'm amazed by the kind of community, efficiency, and standards that I've encountered here. I'm so blessed to be part of this team. As a private entity, our staff is allowed the opportunity to go the extra mile for parents and children in terms of service and care. Students are cared for as if by family here, and the small class sizes ensure great communication and deep involvement by faculty. The staff seeks to glorify God in their policies and actions while strongly adhering to state academic standards. Middle schoolers are using IPads every day in class as their primary learning tool, and the K-5 students are active and knowledgable with SmartBoard and Promethean technology. I'm blown away by the intricate details of a day at RHLS, from the efficient drop-off and pick-up procedures, to the neat debit system introduced to students at the Snack Shack with snack cards, to all the incredible enrichment courses offered after school. This is such a hidden gem of a school in Tustin, and I'm beyond blessed and truly honored to be working with such wonderful people on a full-time basis.

Don't waste your money thinking your child will be getting a "great" education at RHLS. My child has been here for 5 years now. First of all, I don't think the academic teaching is up to par. It's below and disappointing. It was mentioned to the teacher and she brushed it off. I heard the principal is unapproachable and lacks professionalism but will make an attempt about the matter. Many teachers lack qualifications and credentials so be sure to ask about their background before deciding to enroll your child. Too many parents are delusional thinking that a private school is better. Please do your research. Going public now! Also, too many clicks and phonies (parents).

I love SO many things about Red Hill Lutheran School! Having grown up in the public school system, the things I wanted for my child was a Christian atmosphere and also a more personal education. I get both of those at RHLS. The class sizes make it possible for the teachers to really KNOW my child and the Christian character of each staff member is amazing! Thank you Red Hill for an awesome school home for my child.

My children have been at Red Hill for years and have received an amazing education. The teachers are excellent and caring. They are extremely interested in the children as a whole not just their grades. We have been at Red Hill for many years, and have been pleased with two fantastic principals and several wonderful teachers during our time here. The school recently replaced a few good teachers (competent, but not willing to go the "extra mile") with WONDERFUL, loving, high-energy teachers. We love the music, arts, dance, cheer/spirit, and sports programs. Pastor Seth is a gem in the way he teaches the kids about our faith. The Wednesday chapels show that Jesus Christ is the core and foundation of a great curriculum. Isaiah and Mr. Book are great with music programs! We've NEVER been cursed with "busywork" style homework, the school forbids bullying and public humiliation, and our kids are in CLASSES WITH FEWER THAN 20 STUDENTS! Lots of ways for parents to volunteer, though some parents choose to criticize from the sidelines, and not get involved with the school's programs. Although enrollment has grown considerably in the past few years, they keep class sizes small, and continue to add new programs, like the worship band program, and continue to add computer resources. The new building has been a great help to the school's growth. We feel BLESSED to be here!

We enrolled our children at Red Hill Lutheran School looking for a school with small class sizes, a strong academic program where there is still room for music, performing arts, and foreign language. We have found all of this and more! We love seeing the multi-sensory curriculum and how technology is used to get students excited about learning. (This school does not like worksheets!) Christian faith is integrated in every subject. Our children are singing praise songs, learning about philanthropies and how they can make a difference working together. We see why enrollment has continued to grow at RHLS even in a difficult economy.

We have been a part of Red Hill Lutheran School for over 10 years. The former principal was amazing...caring, genuine, Christian! Unfortunately I can not say the same thing about the current administration. I agree with earlier reviews regarding favoritism among students and parents. If you are a "chosen" family, you will be treated wonderfully. If you are a parent that may question the administration or school in general, you will not be treated so well. In the past 4 years, RHLS has lost quite a number of amazing teachers and staff. And although the School Board and pastor know the reason, they are refusing to assist the teachers with their concerns. The school is seeing a decrease in enrollment as well. This is all very unfortunate for a school that was once something amazing and of great value for the students.

Our children have been attending RHLS for 6 years now, and we have experienced the preschool, elementary, and middle school programs here. We chose RHLS above our local highly rated public school (one of the highest rated in Orange County) because of the strong moral and Christian leadership traits taught and practiced here. The current faculty is the best overall group in our years here. They are truly dedicated to not only the academic achievement of your child, but also to their emotional, spiritual, and social development. The principal's leadership is top-notch, and in my opinion, her decision making is never based on cliques, popularity, or personal issues. After hearing the troublesome and downright scary things taking place on the campus of our local public middle school (also very highly rated), I am extremely grateful my 6th grade child is in a safe, controlled, disciplined, and nurturing atmosphere.

We have sent three children through Red Hill Lutheran and it has been a great experience for all three. We have experienced the leadership of two principals since then and they were both outstanding. Any negative comments about them clearly comes from people who could not hear the truth about their little angels or who were asked to keep their financial commitments to the school. Any student who leaves Red Hill Lutheran and is 'behind' academically at the new school was most definitely struggling at Red Hill because it is a strong academic school. RHLS is an outstanding school - there is a reason the enrollment has like doubled since we started resulting in the need for a new building. People will always find something to complain about - it is surprising that anyone would not recognize and respect strong leadership and a great school.

We love this school and the strong morals, guidance and love that we see. Our daughter bounces home with a smile every day. I don't agree with the other reviews regarding the principal. I know the past principal was amazing, but the new one is doing a great job. The integration of God's love into every part of their day and the strong academics have impressed us and we wouldn't dream of being anywhere else, especially in a day-and-age where values and morals are put very low next to academics.

This school has changed a lot over the years. While good character traits have been taught and instilled in the students, the staff has not been a good example of the same in themselves :( Lots of favoritism amongst students and their families (note the extremes in some of the reviews on this page..the positive-well liked family; the negative-the rest of us. :( very sad..not at all what I'd expect from a Christian school. Lots of cliqueshness amongst the parents and the staff, and the principal will not even acknowledge you or pay attention to your child unless you are someone who gives the school a great deal of money or is a well-known member of the church. It is not the most positive environment for many. Good luck on being one of the accepted ones.

RHLS was an incredible school until they got a new Principal> It seems that the new Principal is running a business. She is VERY unapproachable (unless you are a HUGE financial supporter). My son started at RHLS in their Pre-K program but, by the end of 1st grade we put him a public school.

We have two children in the school and could not be more pleased. There is an excellent balance of academics, arts and God. As with ANY school run with human beings, I've seen missteps as well as excellence. It is because of the love, care and teaching my children receive that we continue to attend. My boys LOVE their teachers, enjoy going to school, and thank God for their day at RHLS every night when they pray before bedtime. That alone should be testimony enough.

My children are both former students here, and overall we were a little disappointed in this school. We have been very pleased with the affiliated church however, so this was a big surprise. While the church teaches to be accepting of others--no matter what their background, the school has a very high degree of cliqueness and does not treat others equally. Very sadly this extends over to much of the staff, especially the principal. Far more is expected from a private school, especially one that is associated with a good church. There are quite a bit of politics floating about and with this, if the staff does not agree with your culture or personality it affects many of the opportunities they have at the school :( They are badly in need of new administrators. On the upside, academics are good overall, as are extracurricular activities.

RHLS is still the best kept secret in the Tustin/Irvine area. The staff is loving, caring and extremely hard working. This is a fantastic environment for children to learn. They are safe, loved and challenged academically. Both of my children love God and are so happy they can learn and talk about Him at school and with their friends. Our family will be at RHLS until our children graduate from 8th grade! The school is a total blessing to our family.

We transferred our child from a Tustin public school (after seeing that school go downhill fast) to Red Hill Lutheran. When we were 'feeling' out a new school for our child, we felt very welcomed at Red Hill Lutheran as soon as we were walking up to the front office. The staff is extremely nice and pleasant. Our child had to play catch up beings the public schools are behind a grade level. Now our child is making the best grades they have ever received. Their teacher has taken out her own time with her family to unselfishly give herself to her students. She tutors her students who need help after school out of her heart, not the school's pocketbook. I have recommended this school to all of my peers who are searching for a school that will benefit their child (children) in an oustanding education.

I am a parent that has had all of my children there for a few years. We were far happier with it prior to the current principal taking over for the 2007-08 school year. She seems highly unmotivated and definitely does not treat all students equally or fairly. It definitely appears that you are only respected both as a student and their parent if you are an active member of the church or school board, or if you are a middle-school student. It's been a huge disappointment this year and it seems that many of the staff do not support the changes and often staff is not available to help with homework needs. More is expected from the parents, yet we continue to pay higher prices for tuition! Red Hill needs to make some changes! (note that some of the 'better' reviews here were done a year + ago)

If you enroll your student here - get ready for alot of hands on help with your child. The homework is heavy-the reports are endless. Your child will not receive any individual help he/she may need. I feel the pressure for grades outweighs the importance of actually learning. Both of my children are very discouraged and overwelmed. It puts alot of responsibility for parents.

I am a parent a Red Hill Lutheran School and have I strongly disagree with the student rating below. Red Hill Lutheran is an excellent Christian school. My children who completed eighth grade there went on to excel academically at Orange Lutheran High School. They were able to place in mostly honors classes. My youngest child is entering 6th grade at RHLS and is benefiting from the great academics, weekly music, PE, and computer classes. There is also a great after school program, which includes sports and learning opportunities. The teachers are all qualified and loving. The administration is supportive. Parent involvement is encouraged and there are many wonderful volunteers making it a better place. The school provides a safe Christian atmosphere and perspective in all areas, from academics to discipline.

I first chose this school because of its proximity to my home and the great things I heard about the pre-school program. I had planned to send my children to public school when they became old enough. Well, they are both old enough now and we aren't leaving! The staff is superb; the teachers are excellent; the prinicipal is amazing and the parents are wonderful. Parent pariticipation is strongly encouraged and I love it. My kids really enjoy having Mom there too. Computer access and learning begins in Preschool which I think is fantastic. The P.E. program for elementary children is exceptional. I especially love the after school optional programs and the summer programs. The coordinator does a fantastic job and the prices are reasonable. Plus, my kids love them. They are learning and having fun! Red Hill Lutheran is a truly fantastic, loving, Christian school.

My child attends school at RHL and it is not the 'Christian' experience you would expect from a Christian school. There is a lack of discipline at this school. There is great parent participation at this school, some fairly good teachers, but administration needs to get with the academic times and prepare these kids for high school. Do your research before enrolling your children at RHL.

I'm very satisfied with the education that Red Hill is providing to my children. Not only is the teaching based on a Christian perspective, but the teachers, staff, and administration take the time to answer any questions or concerns that I might have. I highly recommend any interested party to not only take a tour and meet your child's prospective teacher and principal, but also to compare this school with other private and public schools in Orange County. My child attended Red Hill Lutheran for 3 solid years. It seemed as if my child didn't enjoy his time at school but wouldn't clue me in as why. I thought my child was getting an excellent education, that was until she switched schools. Now she is at another private school getting poor grades since Red Hill doesn't teach up to the standard that they should be. Even though my child is receiving bad grades, they are getting better every day and is learnin up to her grade level. Also the children are much nicer and she enjoys school alot more now. Not to mention the principal is much nicer than the principal and Red Hill Lutheran and does not come of as fake and phony.

An exceptional school! rhl offers a warm nuturing environment offering positive reinforcement of good characteristics. The after-school programs are enriching. The children at all grade levels are happy and wholesome, and there is strong parent involvement. It feels like a big extended family.

The administration of the school puts a lot of effort into protecting the safety and self esteem of the children. The teachers seem to really care about the students. The class sizes are small. We did, however, have some disappointment with the school. My daughter, who got straight A's at Red Hill, was behind her new classmates academically when we transfered her to a local public school. We have had to give extra help for her to catch up with her peers scholastically. We found that straight A's are not a good way to judge a school's performance.

My children's experience at Red Hill has been mostly positive, however, there are definitely some negatives concerning the school. Unless you are in total agreement with everything espoused by the principal, your experience will be such that it will be uncomfortable for you to stay. The Middle School Program is very good and the teachers are well-qualified. However, that can not be said for the lower grades, where perhaps good teachers matter the most. My youngest child just completed 3rd grade and he does not know his times tables, as way of example. Just because this is a Christian School does not mean the children have a Christian attitude. My 3rd grader was one of three boys in his class and they ostracized him. This was brought to the attention of his teacher and the principal, to no avail. He will be going to a new school next year.

My child attended this school and had a horrible experience! The teachers lack experience and the administration is unresponsive. Since then my child has attended another area lutheran school where he is excelling and working above grade level. If you are not a member of this church, chances are, your child will suffer and will be treated differently.

My daughter is about to finish her second year at Red Hill. The decision to stay for Kindergarten was very easy. I have been very pleased with Red Hill's school and after school programs. Their dedicated staff and curriculum offer a fun, loving and education enriched environment. Red Hill Lutheran School has continued to exceed my expectations for my daughters social, academic and Christ-centered growth and development.

I started my daughter in the Pre-School Program when she was 3 due to the location but have consistently been impressed at the high quality and dedication of the staff, the after school care has a learning-rich environment, not just a place to drop your kids. The environment of the school and church is one of respect and understanding for each other and I plan to keep my daughter on through Grade 8. I go to work every day knowing she in a safe, disciplined yet loving place. Go Red Hill!

Our children are getting a superior, well-rounded, Christian education at Red Hill. The specialty classes that are part of the school day (PE, Music, Spanish, Computers, and Creative Movement) are terrific, and something our children would not experience at a public school. The after-school program offers a wide variety of fun classes and team sports. We are about to begin our fourth year at Red Hill and we plan to keep our kids there through 8th grade.
