Think about the comment by the parent below, "The children are rude, mean, and have no sense of morals whatsoever. The parents of this school must be some of the worst to raise their kids to treat others as they do." I am not sure who or why a parent would make such a statement disparaging all students and their parents, but I hear the emotion. I can assure you that very few students are having a negative experience at VNMS and I defend the many wonderful families of our community.
I agree with the bullying comment. The anti-bullying policy does not work as I hear about it on a weekly basis. My child is being bullied at this school as well and I am working on another school for next year. The staff is willing to help, but, the stories I hear at this school is "off the charts" this problem is bigger than the staff can handle and I don't see an end to it. The children are rude, mean, and have no sense of morals whatsoever. The parent's of this school must be some of the worst to raise their kids to treat others as they do. I've heard about fighting, punching, name calling, stealing, intimidation, racial slurs, gangs, and the list goes on. Kids have to watch their back at all times while trying to learn- unfortunate. This school needs to do much much more to keep children safe and the district needs to get involved. I have heard how bad this school is before we started and it has lived up to its reputation - hands down.
In response to the below statement. I hear You! my son was bullied as well. He has an IEP. However, we worked with the school staff and they were more than willing to follow through. Listen, life can be a challenge, especially in middle school, but we need to teach our kids to persevere and not to back down. My son is now at VNHS...stronger than ever, and I attribute much of this to VNMS and their dedicated staff. I am sorry you and your son had this experiance though...best of luck...somewhere out there, everyone has a match..Mom
The bullying at this school was off the charts. The school's anti-bully policy was a joke and gave the power to the bullies. Even most of the girls were rude. The Dean was no help, and even made matters worse when he did attempt to correct the situation. Do not send your son and daughter into this antagonist atmosphere, they will lose their self-esteem and drop their grades. It doesn't matter if the teachers at the school are good. We removed our son and he is now being homeschooled before this school inflicted more damage. We know magnet students that hid in their rooms at lunchtime to avoid bullying; at breaks, our son sought out teachers to hang around so he wouldn't be picked on, shoved, and cursed at. The rave reviews are misleading. There is something horribly wrong in the school system and the culture on campus. If you can't homeschool, find a good private, religious school, but at all cost, stay away from Van Nuys Middle School!
I went to this school from sixth to eighth grade and am in the class of 2012. I couldn't be happier with this school. The teachers are awesome, the programs are great, the campus is beautiful, and the kids are the best. I don't know anyone who went to the school and wasn't happy with it. They have an award winning PE program and many programs such as Valley Enviormental Academy, AVID, honors, math/science magnet. Test scores keep going up for th entire school. Like in 2011 the magnet scored over 900 in the CST's. I highly recommend this school for anyone.
The Magnet program at VNMS is a MARVEL!!! The magnet teachers and the staff are amazing mentors to the students. They really focus on producing intelligent and courteous students.
I love the change of demeanor from the top with our new principal, from last many years to this. Thanks to Mr. Del Cueto!
Van Nuys middle school is a really good school. The teachers are nice and they make you earn the grades. Im in the AVID program so the teachers make you strive even more. So i like this school im going to graduate this year but its a really good school.
I think this school is a good school for all kids. My daughter went to this school and she was a very happy child. I constantly checked with her teachers to make sure and kept getting updated. I think that as a parent, we all need to make contact with our child's teachers.
i think this school has an excellent magnet program. theres obviously going to be one or 2 bad teachers but for the most part all the teachers are great. very helpfull and the staff is very active and involved with the students
My son was in the honors program, and I was impressed with most of the teachers, the low crime, and the upbeat lunch time music! My daughter is to be a student in the fall of 2007.
My daughter attended this school and I found overall my daughter's education was sub-standard. The after-school KYDS program was great.
this school offers best teachers, lots of activities, students, and etc. I really recommend this school. It has 90% many hispanics, so some parents think it's not a good school, but it is a good school and you should concern about putting your child to this school.
My daughter has been going to this school for 3 years now. She is graduating this year. She has met the best kids you can imagine. She is part of their family now, and the prinicipal knows her by name. When she first started attending there, every morning the prinicpal would be in front of the school greeting the students, as a parent, I loved that! Their honors program has magnificent teachers who truly care about the progress of their students, and the mainstream teachers are just as dedicated! This school is the best kept secret in the San Fernando Valley! In the beginning, many of my daughters friends chose not to have their children attend because of their own biases, I however am acutely aware of the diversity of the population in the LA area, and tehrefore was not detoured by bias from sending my child there! Thankfully, my instincts were correct and her experience there has been very positive! Contrary to popular thought, this school is not overrun by bad kids! The children here are gems! They shine through their kindness and achievements! Walk around on campus and go meet the kids! They are respectful, productive, intelligent children!
I would like to thank to the principal Mr. Delgado, I have excelent experience on this school year, he is very nice as person as principal, he has time for any person who needs help Thankyou Mr. Delgado Mr. Lopez
The teachers, for the most part, and the administrators are very child-friendly and seem to sincerely like children and are friendly and are focused on high achievement.
Fabulous physical education program. Makes students enjoy being active. Caring teachers focusing more on character development to make better citzens. Wide range of students in ability and financial status.
